Chris ChunHave an appetite for something beautiful today? Don’t miss the works of emerging mixed media artist, Chris Chun, from Sydney. An anonymous decor8 reader (c’mon, reveal yourself!) mentioned this guy to me and I instantly fell in love because this talented man is inspired by food! Yes, his subject matter is of all things yummy — figs, chocolate, tea, fruit, a culinary mixed media world with rich symbolic, cultural, historical and personal meaning. I’m drawn to his use of color and creative design as well as his youthful and playful spirit, they bring out the Nigella in me and make me want to prepare meals and throw a dinner party. Now I raise my glass to that. Bon appetit!

    Hi Holly,

You have to see his paintings in person. What you can’t tell from the paintings, especially the second one you have posted there is that he uses gold leaf, among other things. See that tea strainer? It is outlined with thread that he sews by hand (or sometimes machine) on each canvas. So they are all oil on canvas, plus other textures. The only way to get one of his paintings is to get on a mailing list and be pre-notified before they exhibit. Usually in galleries, the red dot thing is a trick. With him, it’s real. He sells out, sometimes half of his paintings before the shows even start.

You can read an interview with Chris here.
