Lately, I’ve been on the prowl for modern acrylic barware, especially with the summer months coming and the increased traffic the warmer weather will bring here in my home. Unless I’m having a dinner or cocktail party, I break out the acrylic because it’s a lot less stress for me when people are visiting with their children. Acrylic also seems to fit the season, as it was intended for poolside lounging (not that I have a pool), BBQs and summer picnics. After hunting for a good month now, and finding nothing I like, I experienced an ‘oh duh!’ moment this morning when in popped an email from notNeutral announcing their fresh new collection of stylish Blue Dot acrylic barware. How could I have not thought of these guys when I was out searching, notNeutral is the king of modern acrylic. Aren’t these pretty?

I just love this room from West Elm. The cutout dining table ($399) in white is so fresh and I like how they’ve combined it with an saffron “T” chair ($99). West Elm has such great stuff, don’t they? I can’t wait until the Boston store opens in Kenmore Square this year. The catalogs are great, but I much rather browse their wares in person, especially when it comes to selecting furniture – I often prefer to see a sofa and bounce around on it a bit before slapping down the debit card.

I read an interesting article this morning, Can Bloggers Make Money?, from the Wall Street Journal online. It dicusses how, although blogs generate buzz, can they bring in the cash? The article chats it up with blog entrepreneur Jason Calacanis, who recently sold his network of blogs to AOL. He chats with a very skeptical Alan Meckler, CEO of Jupitermedia.
My favorite, and I’ll quote it, is from Alan Meckler when he says, “Blogs are fun for someone who wants a pulpit and does not care about making money. Blogs are really the “diaries” of yesteryear.”
Then Jason Calacanis replies, “OK, I think we’ve reached entrepreneurial stasis on this one: The majority will not make a living off blogging, some will. Time will tell how big the some market is, hundreds or hundreds of thousands. I’m going with the latter.”
Alan Meckler says “blogs are really diaries or microcosms of what is happening in millions of ways in daily life — ranging from special interests to business specialties to whatever. Obviously there is money to be made with blogs, but very, very few will bring in more than a few hundred dollars per year”
