IKEA Everyday Fabulous Exhibit, New York, May 19-23

IKEA says, make every day fabulous: live in your living room, have a love affair with your kitchen, throw coordination caution to the wind, and let the ?you? come through. To see hundreds of eye-opening ideas on how to make every day at home better, visit the IKEA Everyday Fabulous Exhibit Friday, May 19 ? Tuesday, May 23 (no admission fee).

The exhibit goes to extremes to challenge the creativity of visitors in their own homes. While the average New Yorker may not have the need (or space) for a 20-foot high bookcase, the world?s longest kitchen island or a cleansing room with pillow-padded walls and a food-colander fountain, most could stand to shake up the way they see home furnishings. And, many could use a few reminders on how to live everyday fabulous.

Visit the IKEA Everyday Fabulous Exhibit at 537 W. 35th Street (at 11th Avenue) in NYC, directly across the street from Javits Center, where the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) is being held.

* Friday, May 19: Free down pillow for first 100 ?Suddenly Singles,? those who?ve just found out that Mr. or Ms. Right is all wrong.
* Saturday, May 20: Free dog dish to the first 100 Mutts and Mongrels. Complimentary canine water bar and supervised doggie corral.
* Sunday, May 21: Free photo frame for the first 100 Out-of-Work Actors (with SAG card).
* Monday, May 22: Free soft toy for the first 100 Tots and Toddlers, ages 5 and under. Free stroller parking.
* Tuesday, May 23: Free magazine file for the first 100 Neat Freaks.

?We hope people will leave the IKEA Everyday Fabulous Exhibit feeling like they?ve just had a cool drink, a breath of fresh air and a dose of inspiration to dare to be different in their own home,? says Simonson-Berge. ?If you don?t think a home furnishing exhibit can do all that, you?d better come visit ours.?

MOS My Own Space

MOS My Own Space
I can’t believe I haven’t written about these guys sooner. I visited MOS for the first time last summer and fell head over heels in love, but couldn’t remember their name to save my life. While organizing my business card files recently, I came across a MOS card and ping! the lightbulb in my head popped on and I remembered that *this* is the store I loved in La Jolla. If you’re fortunate enough to live in the beautiful La Jolla area, you have to get over to MOS because it’s a great source to tap into for your modern design fix. They have the sweetest showroom – everything is laid out so well that you’ll want to move right into the store, with everything arranged so well, it makes selecting items so much easier. You’ll find their friendly and knowledgeable team of design experts equally refreshing, willing to answer any question and spend time chatting with you about everything from the weather to their latest line of bedding.

MOS offers many stunning quality collections, from FOLD bedding to Italian and Scandinavian furniture, like this platform bed that serves two purposes, sleeping and book storage. Some other fresh furniture finds, the stackable files with casters constructed of birch with a gunmetal finish, their super hip metro unit with legs, and the popular Starck design Dr. No stackable armchairs. If it’s in your budget, shop their rugs, too. I’m jonesin’ for a topissimmo rug designed by Nani Marquina. Drool!

If you’re looking to simply add to your home with the right accessory or lighting, MOS delivers when it comes to the small stuff, too! With lots of fun accessories on the cheap, like this pino funnel, you’re bound to find the perfect something. Visit them at 7840 Girard Avenue in La Jolla, CA (then pop on over to Wahoo’s for a fish taco) or shop online at their impressive website.

Psst: MOS has some great tips on selecting wall color that some of you may really enjoy reading.

I really like this Pool Party cotton poplin print by Heather Ross for Munki Munki. With the long memorial day weekend approaching, do you have any pool parties or events to attend? Cookouts? It’s been raining and flooding so much here for the past 7 days that we nearly have our own pool behind our house… But, I decided to turn all this rain into a positive by writing more, working on some designs, further developing my business, exercising harder and longer at the gym, and spending lots of time on organizing my home. Plus, I spent 3 days with one of my closest friends and we had an absolute blast. Being stuck indoors has actually been a good thing for me.

Don’t you think that’s the key to true happiness? The ability to have control over your emotions and decide how you will let something that appears negative, to affect you in a positive sense? Vital!

Just got back from the gym, not much posting going on here today since my friend is still up and we’re off for a spa afternoon and shopping. You know, a girl has to take a day off now and then!

Hope you have a great Monday and I’ll see you bright and early tomorrow with lots of fresh finds that I’ve been saving up!

Sundays with Tea: Mocha Dunk Mug

May 14, 2006

Sundays with Tea: Mocha Dunk Mug
I’m here enjoying tea with my friend Katie this morning, trying to figure out what we’d like to do today. Maybe visit a museum, go to the gym, stay home and watch classic movies… It’s one of those rainy Sunday mornings where one lingers… Not doing much, just dreaming of what the afternoon can hold. I hope you’re having a lingering, relaxing Sunday today. If you’re online looking for a few fresh finds, visit Mocha online. They are an UK-based modern home store. I adore their clever little dunk mug designed by Dominic Skinner. Available in righty or lefty versions, with the perfect cookie (aka biscuit) storage. This is the sweetest mug ever!

Wishing you a happy Sunday, a cup of warm tea with honey, and a joyous afternoon!
