About A Boy: Nicholas Hoult

Bubblelicious! I’m crushing on this fashion blog called Style Bubble. Have you seen it? It’s wonderful. Susie is the most creative girl and it shows, from her banner to her posts, everything is a delight. I had to post these photos of little Marcus Brewer from one of my all time favorite movies, About A Boy. Seems as though Marcus, rather Nicholas Hoult, has grown into his bowl haircut. At 6’3″ and 16 years old, he is quite the hot boy on campus. Not that I’m lusting for the under 18 set, but I’m sure the ‘tween girls are going crazy for him. If you’re an About A Boy fan, I’m sure you’ll love seeing these photos of Nicholas. Susie has more posted over at her very fantasCHIC blog, Style Bubble.

Speaking of About A Boy, did you catch the interview of Rachel Weisz in the April issue of British Vogue? Stunning photos and a terffic interview – not to miss for Weisz fans!

Justine Smith

decor8 reader, Sky, told me all about this London based artist that she thought I’d like, Justine Smith. Sky was right on the money about that!

Justine Smith has this green theme (not eco-green, we’re talking bling bling green) and produces a series of sculptures covered in real money. “At once a visual pun, these works also explore our relationship with that most ubiquitous aspect of life and our responce to it, either in a political, moral or philosophical sense, as well as emphasising the physical beauty of the note.” Justine says.

Money aside, she is particularly known for her ongoing series of dog sculptures which are meticulously formed from chicken-wire and plaster. When the sculpture is complete, she collages over it forming one snazzy pup! A dog any landlord couldn’t refuse…

In addition to her sculptures, she also creates these beautiful wall-mounted paper contructions that I’m in love with. I can totally see these in my home. She uses paper pieces to form these stunning geometric or swirling silhouettes of birds, insects and in particular butterflies. Swoon!

Thank you again, Sky!

Cookie Magazine Review

Does anyone read Cookie magazine? I’m a huge fan, and I’m not even a parent. I just love this new parenting magazine, and I highly suggest it for anyone really. I like staying current with what’s going on in the world of parenting so that when I get there someday, I’m not totally clueless. Plus, it reaches way beyond parenting, including recipes, travel, decor items, and fashion. I have friends with kids, so it also helps me to understand and relate to them better. Often, when you have friends with children, you find yourself unable to identify with a lot of what they talk about. Funny as it sounds, Cookie has helped me ‘get’ my parenting friends and develop closer bonds because our worlds don’t seem so far apart anymore. Having kids doesn’t put you on some unknown planet where no one except other parents can relate to you. Great publications, like Cookie, help bridge the gap, or shall I say, make you realize that a gap really doesn’t exist between parents and non-parents. It’s all about educating yourself and learning to understand and be there for your friends as life changes.
