The Sarut Group

Talk about attention to detail! Bumping up the total kitcsch factor today, we have crazy kooky gifts from The Sarut (pronounced Sa-roo) Group based in Brooklyn, New York. Alan Ceppos and Frederic Rambaud, the principals of The Sarut Group, hand pick numerous distinct collections designed to “inspire, educate and entertain”.

Their contemporary-designed gift items and decorative accessories are as fun as they are functional and, in a world of plain red dust pans and ordinary metal cheese graters, why not take simple things and transform them into something kitcschy chic. Fun! [shown above: veggie peelers, graters, dust bins + elephant funnels!]

lighting, iPod skins, mouse pads, doggy cake servers, girly graters + magnetic birdies!

Mohr + McPherson [Boston]

Mohr + McPherson is a direct importer and purveyor of fine furniture, hand knotted carpets, and accessories from around the planet. From Chinese antiques + reproductions, rugs, closeouts, and European imports to upholstery, jewelry and textiles, Mohr + McPherson’s eclectic mix of furniture will certainly keep you busy and quite possibly, lead to visual stimulation overload which only can be cured by a glass of vino afterwards.

Bio: Kevin McPherson, founder of Mohr + McPherson, is a native of New England. Before opening the store he developed real estate, managed construction projects for an architectural firm, imported modern furniture from Italy, and worked as a “gandy dancer” (track laborer) for Penn Central Railroad, among other things. With his original partner John Mohr he started Mohr + McPherson in 1991. Since then he has traveled to 13 countries, and established the most ethnically diverse collection of furnishings, accessories, and objects in New England, if not the entire US.

Location: 151 Alewife Brook Pkwy. in Cambridge, MA

Tip: Mohr + McPherson offers Buying and Safari Trips to India. Click here to read their story featured in the March 2006 National Geographic Traveler.
