coffee + cre8tive {june 9 ’06}

It’s Friday! It’s Friday! Time to pump your arms and do the happy dance people. I’m hoping for a nice weekend because frankly, it’s been raining here all week and I’m getting pretty sick of it. I feel like America was folded in half and New England is now one with the pacific northwest because we’ve been having Seattle weather for the past few months now… Rain, rain, rain. A few showers is fine, but I suspect what will happen is that the rain will stop and it will immediately be 95 degrees with extra humidity and I’ll simply melt into a little heap of dreams onto the floor. Great, I’ve moaned enough, how are you guys and dolls today? Any weekend plans? After all this rain and blogger not working right since Tuesday, I plan to get out my frustration this weekend and hopefully get outside and play some tennis. We played last weekend and this time, I didn’t walk away with tennis elbow. Husband is starting to get worried, I’m actually beginning to throw him a challenge vs. play tennis like a totally clueless idiot (as before). Ah. The joy of competition. Tell me I can’t and you’ve just encouraged me more than you’ll ever know.

I found this crazy mod fabric, new at reprodepot today, modern girl in pink. What do you think? I’m looking at this and thinking grooooovey.

Crate + Barrell = Fresh Finds in Blue and White!

Here are some fresh finds from Crate + Barrel to add nautical but nice touches to your home this summer.

Sleek sophisticated pinstripe blue dinnerware (now on sale) that will have you setting your table with contemporary style. The dejeuner apron + potholder + mitt (also on sale) makes a great gift, along with these porcelin blue and white plates with patterns inspired by antique Japanese linen handkerchiefs (great for a wall display, too!). Looking for a great room enhancing mirror? Look no further, the felix floor mirror in high-gloss white lacquer really opens up your space. If a white hot table is what you seek, your kitchen will love you for choosing the quantum table. I love the chrome legs and the versatile drop-leaf design. Oh, and that’s not all. Have you seen the petrie 1960s style sofa? It’s so sweet with it’s slim legs and tufted button cushions. Yum.

Care for a spot of tea? The roulette blue band tea pot (with matching sugar bowl and creamer) is perfectly tailored with it’s navy accent band around the rim. Love the curves on this milky white cloud vase (quite jon adler, eh?). More coordinating goodies from the roulette collection. This time, blue band s+p shakers. Since we’re in the kitchen again, let’s look at the archive blue band sugar and creamer. It’s subtle texture is added by incised lines that are inspired by ancient Japanese ceramic traditions. Who would have known? Finally, the gracie chandelier, a modern interpretation of an 18th century Georgian chandelier in a high gloss white enamel finish. I’d love to see this in white frosted glass and no shades, wouldn’t that be stunning?

P.S. A great sofa for your 2nd home on the Cape. Clean, crisp, it’s ships ahoy with this Huntley Grand sofa.

Mill + Mia Bedding For Kids

Mixing classic with contemporary, Mill + Mia bedding for kids is made from the finest natural cotton for cozy nights spent reading stories together in your jammies. Featuring their seasonal hand-printed textile designs, these Aussie designers know what kids and modern parents like. I love the fresh crisp prints and would like to see more American designers showing us clean uncomplicated designs for kids instead of all the ‘theme’ trends we see. Dwell is doing a great job, but I’m looking for others to step up. Just give me some crisp white sheets with a perky green and white florals, thank you!

Psst: top photos taken of their retail store down undah.

Pier 1 Sale – June 8 – June 22

Planning for a little summer party on the patio? What could be better than a Pier 1 sale on these fab entertaining must-haves!

Love you some lights? These geometric sweeties are only $15 and sure to add a touch of mod wherever you string ‘em.

Please, don’t break out the white plastic forks after you’ve spent all that time preparing a beautiful meal on the patio. Instead, opt for this dream blue flatware in stainless steel with acrylic handles. $16 buys you a 12-piece set that includes four forks, four spoons, and four knives.

My favorite pick at Pier 1 is also the most budget friendly. If you’re detail-oriented (aka suffer obsessive compulsive design disorder OCDD), you’ll love popping these umbrella straws into your summer mai tai. $1 for a package of 12!

Modernistas take note. This modern green melamine dinnerware replaces those throw away plates (eek!) and they’re more eco-friendly, too. Between $3-4 each, you’ll get more use out of them because you can wash and use again at your next outdoor party.

And who can resist dessert? Bold floral paper dessert napkins, combining both green and blue from our party accessories, are not only useful but perfect for playing up your lively party decor. At $2.50 for 16 napkins, you can still afford to buy a cake and eat it, too.

This is when seeing spots on your glasses won’t freak you out! They’re not water spots, they’re dotty spots and adorable ones at that. If $3 buys you a set of 4, um do the math clever girl, that’s less than $1 a punch. SCORE!

Party decor doesn’t need to cost more than the food, and best of all, you can put your money (booze) into other important (booze) details (booze).
