Vitra Algue

Forever fascinated by design inspired by nature, especially the ocean or forest, I loved this window display. I know the algue from Vitra has been around for a few years, but I was excited to see it assembled in the window of Seydlitz*, in all of its green plastic glory. You can snap this fan-shaped seaweed together to form something sculptural for your wall or to create a curtain or even a wall divider – which I’d love to see used in an office space at a creative firm. Each algue is 6″ x 12″ and sold in sets of 6, available in red, green, or white. Wouldn’t it be lovely to see a curtain in a similiar design, only handmade of felt?

*Seydlitz is a beautiful design store located at Theatrestrasse 15, Hannover 0511/27070712

Inke – Wallpaper Silhouettes for Adults + Children (Netherlands)

I popped into Von Klein Auf* in Hannover to locate a gift for my dear friend back home and was instantly dazzled the moment I saw wallpaper in animal silhouettes on thier walls, in the most charming vintage patterns ever.
These Lions, giraffes, elephants, monkeys, and many other wild animals can live together peacefully in the bedroom of your little one, all handmade in the Netherlands by Inke. I saw the lion silhouette in a magazine many months ago, but only upon seeing them in person did they interest me – they are quite large, and the patterns are in the most beautiful colors, so much prettier in person (in my opinion).

No children? No worries there. Inke also designs for adult decor with a collection of silhouettes of lamps, chairs, plants, and doors. All shapes arrive packaged in a tube with a complete DIY kit which includes a brush, glue, and instructions.

If you do not live nearby to a shop that stocks Inke (hard to find in the USA), you can purchase online directly from Inke.

*Von Klein Auf stocks only the animal shapes in-store. You can visit them in Hannover located one block from the Lister Platz u-bahn at Edenstrasse 42. 0511/3970093

Calling Designers in Portland, Oregon

decor8 reader Lise needs your help!

“Hi Holly, I’m writing you with a completely selfish request… You’ve profiled fabulous interior (re)designers who have a modern eye and an understanding of budgets like Julieann from Jace Interiors and Amy Lenahan from design i…and you, of course! But, given that all of you are on the eastern half of the country, I wonder if you can make a request for names of designers who offer similar services on the West Coast? More specifically, I’m dying to find someone in Portland.”

Now it’s up to you, dear readers, to comment below if you can suggest someone, or if you are a designer yourself, engage in as much shameless self promotion as possible, we won’t mind one bit. :) Thank you!
