Another presentation that held my attention was the project “Murs Portables” by Hester van Dijk from Overtreders W. Multi-functional walls that allow the home dweller to not only move them around as they choose (they are free-standing) but these architectural partitions (padded, “x” design, blinds, shades, etc.) can also serve multiple fuctions – to filter light, to insulate for either blocking sound or adding warmth, to frame a space, to block light, create privacy, the list goes on and on… But always to create visual interest. These would be gorgeous in a loft environment or office space, don’t you think?

I love the idea of using materials that are often neglected or not viewed as pretty or desirable to create things that are. Like concrete. Very few think of concrete as a beautiful material. Driveway, foundation, walls – those things come to mind – but hardly the word beautiful. “Glossy Concrete Moulding” is a project from designer Dax van Son who has set out to change the way we look at and use concrete. Here he used a material that few experiment with on this level – transforming it into either bowls or vases that look like satiny, glazed earthenware. Or as moulding that is available in every color imaginable, and because it is extremely dense and dirt repellent, it is suitable for nearly everything from street furniture to wall tiles.

“Hotknot” designed by Maartje de la Brassine, takes baking forms and accessories in silcone rubber on a new level. Usually, you see silcone mits that are solid, for example – no holes. The goal in this project was to create a more open structure, using less materials without dimishing their protective properties. Experiments with traditional craft techniques resulted in a table runner, overn mit, and few placemats. What do you think?

Love this lighting, weaved flexible shades that you could bend anyway you’d like to create your own form. I loved the shadows that these created. Designed by Rasmus Frankel, I’d own these, wouldn’t you?

Designed by Margriet Foolen, Nold is both new and old combined. These earthenware bowls designed for a single portion are inspired by the slow-cooking r?mertopf because it is very healthy to use them for cooking – you do not need to use oil or butter to prepare your food, allowing the vitamins and minerals to remain in your meals for a healthier you! Depending on portion size, you can choose between the shallow or deep pot. Heatproof and colorful, the silicon rings also make these bowls stackable for easy storage. Once out of the oven, you can place them on the table and eat directly from the bowl.
“I fold you” was also on display from Margriet Foolen, stackable, weather-proof, no-screw no-glue garden furniture constructed of flexible beech wood. Formed out of one sheet by using curves and cut-outs, they are both comfortable and strong. Lovely.
