Reader Q: Can you review the fainting sofa?

decor8 reader Sarah wrote in requesting help. I have zero experience with this sofa so I’m hoping someone out there can help her out. :)

Reader Q: Can you review the fainting sofa?
Sarah writes, “I know that you blogged about Urban Outfitter’s fainting sofa a while back. I’ve been in love with it ever since, especially now that it just came out in 2 new colors. I’ve scoured the internet, looking for someone who actually owns it, and can tell me how comfortable it is, but I just can’t seem to find anyone, and they don’t have the sofa at any of the stores in my area. I really want the couch, but I don’t want to buy something that could potentially be uncomfortable. Do you think you could send a shout out on your blog for someone to give a review of the couch? If that’s not something you’d like to use your blog space for, that’s fine. I was just wondering if you’d be willing.” – Sarah

Can you help Sarah?

I haven’t sat in it – but I have been eyeing it since it came in that killer yellow-green.

But what I love more is that floor! Do you think they shot it in an old house, or can you actually buy floor like that somewhere?

Hi … me either. BUT … I just “tested” their couch that converts to a bed and wham! was that thing brutally hard! I was shocked! Not that that necessarily means anything about this lovely piece. FYI, decor8 readers, I’ve been wondering the same about the mid-century modern sofa that’s currently on back-order at UO. Any sitters?

I’ve sat on it in the UO in San Francisco. It is comfortable enough but I was surprised how small it is. It looks bigger in the pictures.

I sat in it this past weekend, and I was quite comfortable when sitting against the higher sides, but when leaning into the back, was slightly uncomfortable. It wouldn’t function so well as a comfy couch potato seat facing a TV, but good for reading a book with your feet up…

I have this sofa in the yellow-green color. For the price, I think it’s totally worth it; in fact, I’d love another one:)

But I definitely wouldn’t call it a solid piece of furniture. It arrived in two boxes and basically the sides screw onto the seat, and then the legs screw in. It is very very lightweight. My 2 year old daughter can push it around the room.

I was actually surprised at how big it is, for the price and its appearance on the website. Still, it’s really only comfortable for one person to recline because it is backless. It is definitely not as comfortable as a regular sofa…we use it as a supplement to our main couch–kind of like a loveseat or even chair. People do like to sit on it, though, and it is really lovely looking.

I don’t think, in any way, that this will become an heirloom piece of furniture for us, but for the time being it is perfect and I love it.

Great comments so far, keep ’em coming. I suspected what Joanna posted to be the case – not a piece of furniture for watching TV, but great as a display piece or to sit on every now and then – like in a bedroom for instance.

Oooh! Didn’t know that Urban Outfitters did furniture (new to the US so extremely ignorant). Has anyone sat on the gorgeous-looking and astonishingly cheap Apostrophe chair?

what is the actual color of this couch? The website says gray, but it appears blue in the pictures.

You can also find this sofa on Targets website I think if you type in settee velvet it should appear. It is under a different name all together though….
It is a hundred dollars less right now than the ones at urban outfitters and it is an additional 15% off of that— plus free shipping!!!!! I am looking for it cheaper than that… I also see it listed for 799.00 on other websites so it is quite a deal at target right now!!!

I think Joanna may be referring to a different piece of furniture that Urban carries… The Mid Century sofa is armless, not backless and it didn’t seeem overly light to me. But maybe that would be true for people with kids who would be rough on it. I’ve got an all adult house so we’re pretty gentle on out furniture.

I am about to purchase this as a second sofa for my living room. I’ve already got a really nice comfortable couch to lounge on so I want it for an affordable and nice guest seating pice. I found it quite comfortable and for the price it definitely looks great. I messed with it a bit at the store and it seemed sturdy and looks like it’d be easy to move (a huge plus for us apartment/condo dwellers).

I’m definitely sold on it. And as a side note, you may want to check a retail location if you’ve got one nearby and you’re thinking of purchasing it. I’ve noticed it sometimes goes on sale at individual stores but not on the website, plus you’ll save the shipping charge.
