Creative Thursday + decor8 Podcast

April 19, 2007

Marisa from Creative Thursday interviewed me in her podcast today, which quickly became more of a relaxed, very informal discussion than a Q & A session. I wanted to say hello to all of you, talk about blogging in general and why putting your voice out there is so important, tips on jumping from your day job into the world of freelance, or at least, how to enjoy your current day job a little more.

Creative Thursday + decor8 Podcast
This was a lot of fun for me because it’s my first podcast and I wasn’t sure of the questions she’d ask, but Marisa asked great ones and before we got started, she encouraged me to ramble and just roll with it, so despite how casual it is and my frequent sniffles, I really hope you enjoy it and take away something positive for yourself. Here’s the podcast

psst: Remember the post, How do you feel about your blog? Well, Marisa and I will discuss this topic at length by addressing reader questions and pulling in the comments of other bloggers (maybe you’d like to get involved?) on the topic of blogging, taking yours to the next level, building a better blog, etc. We don’t consider ourselves the experts, but I think that our combined experience, along with the participation of other bloggers out there, we’ll be able to give you something that will work for you. I can’t wait — we’re targeting May, stay tuned!

Thank you, Marisa!

dec-or-ate is correct. It’s a play on the word DECORATE. ATE sounds like EIGHT, so it’s decor8. Back in early 2005 when I was trying to name my business, it took me MONTHS to figure out what to call myself. I wanted the name to be a reflection of my creativity but also one that immediately let people know what the business was about. I started playing with the spelling of words related to design and decorating and loved combining numbers with words, so decor8 was born. :)

    Holly,

You have a great voice Holly, perfect for radio! I have heard some podcasts where I had to shut it off after the first minute because their voice was so…um….not meant for radio. I loved your podcast and love your blog as well! Congrats Holly! ….and you are truly an inspiration!

    The podcast rocked!

What it made me think of was Julia Child who transformed the way Americans thought about food and related to food– she brought real French cooking to the masses and showed them step by step how they could do it themselves– so that it wasn’t only available to those who could afford swish restaurants.

It used to be decorating was also that “off limits” “to the trade only” kind of thing and SO hard for people such as myself who want to have a home with good design but feel utterly like a big ham with two unopposable thumbs–

Your website and many of those you so generously link to provide fabulous inspiration and support which helps us all to create home environments that create our own creativity and perspective (although, I’d still love the means to hire a pro . .)

Okay– didn’t mean to hijack your comments– the interview was great!
