Amy Butler *New* Book: Midwest Modern

I was so excited when I found a little package in the mail last week from Amy Butler. It contained a sneak peek of her new book, Midwest Modern, along with some great patterns for the home, like her new gum drop pillows and feather your nest — patterns for pillow shams, cases, and a quilted coverlet.

Although I love gifts, I think it’s more fun to share, so I asked Amy if she’d like to get involved in a decor8 contest, and she YES! In fact, she was so pleased that I should be receiving a bunch of patterns from her this month to giveaway to decor8 readers! So watch the blog over the next few weeks because I’ll be posting another contest to give you the chance to win free Amy Butler patterns. :)

Now back to the book… Midwest Modern: A Fresh Design Spirit for the Modern Lifestyle isn’t due out until Autumn, but you can pre-order it on Amazon. I just love some of the images inside, all shot by Amy’s talented husband. Although I don’t have the entire copy, just the jacket and an 8 page preview, I can tell it’s going to be a great read. I love how she blends mid century modern with country and lots of flea market finds.

The intro is just great, and a good reminder to many of us, “Attention, design and style mavens! There?s a lot more to America than just the east and west coasts. Today, innovative American design?in clothing, home decor, even gardening?is emerging from the Midwest. So lay your bicoastal biases aside, and let Amy Butler show you what?s happening in the heartland.” Go midwest!

A huge thanks to Amy Butler and her team for supporting decor8, I can’t wait to tell you more about the giveaway in the weeks to come…

Ooo, it looks beautiful! Another book to add to the ‘watch for’ list. ;)

I think we’ll see more and more coming from the much-maligned ‘flyover’ part of the country in the coming years as more and more people move there (big article about this in the WSJ Opinion section today) – of course the talent will migrate, too, and inspire other people to express their creativity as well. Things might look different than the haute things from both coasts, but with so many people in the world this only means more tastes will be catered to.

You know I just featured one of Amy Butler’s bags in my design blog. I like the “midwest modern” idea. I seem to be coming across some wonderful modern designers who are in the midwest.
