Mood Board Contest: Sweet Sewing Room by Allyson Vermeulen
I love crafty girls! If you’re looking for a little inspiration for your arts and crafts space, this may be just what you need to see today. Introducing… Allyson’s sweet sew space.
Name: Allyson Vermeulen
Occupation: stay-at-home mom
State: Beacon, NY
Theme: A sweet little sewing room full of vintage details, where organization and order inspire creativity.
Inspiration: Things that are pink and dainty: a plate of raspberry glazed cream puffs, a pair of satin shoes in the perfect ballerina pink, an embroidery sampler in many shades of rose, delicate floral handkerchiefs. I have also taken a cue from vintage sewing supplies and notions, and muslin covered dress forms. More than anything I find myself inspired by organization: the jars of notions with fabric-covered lids, the baskets separating works-in-progress, the proper work table, the spools of thread tied to their matching bobbins, stacks of neatly folded fabric. I am realizing just how much good design can improve your quality of life – not just because its pretty to look at, but because it functions well, and helps you stay focused. My imaginary room is also inspired by necessity.
Notes: Right now my “sewing room” is a corner of our living room where I keep my machines and tools. My fabric is in bins in the attic and my cutting table is the dining room floor. By the time I have taken out whatever I am working on and set everything up, one of my boys is up from their nap and it all has to go away again. I imagine that if I had a room to keep it all in, a room where I could leave things mid-process, I’d get so much more done! And being the only girl in the house, I would love a room thats pink!
Thank you for entering the decor8/Amy Butler mood board contest, Allyson! I’ll post as many entries as I can fit in today, and then that’s it, the contest will wrap up and tomorrow we’ll all get to vote for our new winners. Yeah!
