Inspired by the beautiful garden and patio photos shared by Apartment Therapy readers during their June Outdoor Home month, I thought I’d take you on a tour of my backyard so you can see how I live. Click here to take the little tour.
I lived in Boston for many years and although my parents are still down there and I visit home constantly, my husband and I now live up in New Hampshire about 45 minutes out of the city. The home that you see in this flickr set is an 1875 carriage house bordering a 100+ acre apple orchard and a working farm. Our town is known for horses and apples, and from Spring until late Fall, the smell of sweet corn and apples fill the air. It’s heavenly. I should add that in addition to seeing people out walking their dogs, it’s just as common to see them walking an Appendix Quarter Horse. It’s really beautiful and very green here. I hope you enjoy our little country abode.
See you on Thursday since it’s a holiday here in the states today and most of us are enjoying the day off. :)

You have a wonderful ( and huge ) garden ! Very peaceful spot, looking at the photos. Do you also do “Rhabarber-Gr?tze” from the rhubarbe ? My mom used to it, she’s american, but i think that recipe might come from the german part of my family.

You have found a beautiful piece of heaven up in NH.
We live in upstate NY and enjoy, and are blessed, waking up to the beauty of nature every day also.
My only question, are there deer up there where you live? Your garden is pristine. In the last few weeks we have had the pleasure to site many newborn fawns walking with their mom’s thru the yard. So I buy gallons of Liquid Fence to stear them away from my gardens of hosta (dessert for them!) etc. But it’s a battle.
Gotta go, a baby groundhog is balancing on my potted plant on the porch!!!

It looks so cool, green and beautiful.. We are in a terrible drought here in Southeast VA. My garden and yard just seem dull and brown.

No wonder you left the city! What a spot! In the city, you could probably get a small 1 bedroom condo in the South End for the same price…:)

Your place is idyllic! I wish I were so blessed! NH is lovely (I have family in Meredith). I grew up in New Brunswick (Canada, not so far from NH and spent lots of time in NH)and my parents property reminds me of your slice of countryside. Heaven! The only problem with the country is insects!
I would love to see more photos INSIDE your house. I can see with all that country why you would want a little *modern* to spice things up a bit. I am so envious – you live in an awesome location for antiques and flea markets and stuff too. We have so little of that in western canada, a much younger part of the country.
Anyway, thanks for sharing. i love your little pond too.

I can’t believe this is where you live, it is gorgeous! Now I understand why you are so together and in tune. Congratulations, what a relaxing, beautiful environment.

Thank you for sharing… your place is just beautiful. I was struck by your comment about modernism, and later found this article about it. You may find it interesting, especially what the author says about how much we now pay for modern pieces in our homes. http://www.underconsideration.com/speakup/archives/002710.html. It is written from a graphic design point of view, but I think it has a similar slant to it. I would love to hear more about what you think of the current modern trend. I personally prefer individual taste, like your European bohemian (lovely!). I think mine is kinda colonialist bohemian, just because I grew up in Africa. I think a more eclectic style has a little more soul (although even now and then I do find myself wishing for an Eames chair).
Thank you for showing us your lovely home.
