I’m back from vacation, we flew home from Germany so now I’m blogging live from New Hampshire in our little country home. Everything feels so weird out here after living in a European city for two months, but I’m happy to be home because I missed my stuff! It’s cold here, but sunny, so I thought I’d change the decor8 header to reflect the changing of the seasons from Autumn to Winter and incorporate the color combination I’m smitten by at the moment – gray, white, and lavender. Yes, purple – surprise, surprise. I’m also hooked on metallic silver accents, doily motifs, mercury glass, organic chai tea with lots of milk and honey, and the usual suspects – owls and branch patterns, they inspired the new header. Oh and I’m hooked on Beirut (thanks Ingrid + Gunnar), Dave Gahan’s new CD (thanks Paris, a lucky girl that actually met him in NYC recently), and Paul Oakenfold’s latest. Oh, and I can’t stop listening to Send Me An Angel. So 1980’s.
Here are a few lovely photos saved in my flickr faves if you’d like to click on over and view where they’re from, please do. I always see an unplanned theme when I save photos as faves and then step back and look at all of them together like this. There’s always this specific palette in every batch.
By the way, tomorrow kicks off our week of sales here on decor8 where I’ll be posting discounts and offer codes from many of our sponsors shown in the right column, so stick around – you are sure to find some great deals. I’ll also be posting a few home tours and interviews this week, and for the locals, watch for the post announcing your chance to attend the LOLA launch party with me in December. Until tomorrow….
One big thing that attracts me to Hannover is the progress being made here in many areas, from restoration to building, new cafes and restaurants popping up, and the many indie artists coming out of the cracks to show their faces, their talent, to lend a voice to the growing world community of independent artists.
One voice in this community is Fruehling Bitte, a design studio that caters mostly to kids and the young at heart, with lots of pink and blue and the sweetest accessories including hats that I wish I could get away with wearing (you can order from them online). This is one example of the rising talent here and there’s more… Which I’ll show you when I return to decor8 on November 19th.
Starting tomorrow, I’ll be taking some “me” time off to travel with my family and step away from my computer for about 10 days – I haven’t done this is over 2 years so it’s time to unplug! But I’ll return on the 19th with a full week of sales (remember?) and several atelier tours including a glimpse into the home of YippieYeah, and lots of other goodies – so until then I’m signing off and I’ll be seeing you right here on November 19.
Hugs to you all! xo, holly
p.s.s. Oh, and I really want to get the reader home tours back in action again. We did this in 2006 on decor8 but I put it on hold in 2007. The goal is to get started again in the new year, so if you have a home that you’d like to share with readers, please let me know via email at decor8blogATyahooDOTcom
I’m the curious type. Some might say I’m nosey, but that sounds rather negative, so I prefer curious. :) Anyway, curious Holly here keeps seeing these fabulous pillows in shops everywhere with tiny gray tags that I can’t read. The brand is somewhat of a scribble so I can’t decipher just who makes them. When I ask shop owners, they seem offended that I would want to know or they tell me and I can’t understand the name because well, they say things here in English with such a strong German accent and so quickly that I sometimes get lost. Yesterday, everything changed.
While visiting with a local product designer at her home, I noticed she had a delightful pillow and yes, it had the gray scribble tag, so nosey me asked what the brand was and come to find out, she worked with this company before — it’s owned by design duo Roger Wood and Christine Scherer) from Munich and the company is called Taj Wood & Scherer. Tah-dah! Isn’t this all so lovely? Aren’t you glad that I asked? Me too. Pillows, lamps, blankets, ottomans, and you can even find Taj in America, just check their store list on their site.
Have a look at their wonderful website, you’re sure to fall in love. And after googling them I found that my lovely fellow blog friend Imelda wrote about them in August on her Singapore-based blog, Imedagoze. Small world! She adores Taj, too. Can’t you see why?
