Good News! {Boston Globe + Blueprint}

I have to share some good news with you. Yesterday a Globe Correspondent contacted me to schedule a meet up to discuss decor8. So tomorrow I’ll be taking her for a spin around Boston to some of my favorite shops and then we’ll sit down for the actual interview. The article will appear sometime this month in the Boston Globe, and best part — it will be primarily about design blogging, one of my favorite topics. The article should go live later this month. I’m so nervous!

Also, if you have the new issue of the Jan/Feb Blueprint magazine (it will be around until March), I’m on page 61 in the box titled, “Photo Finesse”, part of Image Control, a piece written by Tom Samiljan. I give Blueprint readers some tips on photo displays, and although my mega list of tips didn’t make the cut, I was happy to see that they included Photojojo and a book I’ve suggested here on decor8 before, Photocraft: Cool Things to Do with the Pictures You Love by Caroline Herter, Laurie Frankel and Laura Lovett. They also were nice enough to put the link to decor8 directly in the paragraph so thank you Blueprint, especially Tom, for contacting me for this piece. I can’t believe this is their final issue…

    Hi Holly,
    That is great! Congratualtions, I was going to get Bluepirint anyway but, now doubly so! I cannot believe it is the last issue either, I for one will miss it.

    I’ve been running around like a lunatic trying to drum up a copy of blueprint. That’s what I get for living on an island! Can’t wait to see it, Holly!

    Congrats on the Globe article. And thanks for the photo tips )

    Holly,
    I’m so excited for you that these good things are happening. I don’t think it’s any coincidence since your blog is so wonderful and you’re brimming with optimism and goodwill. I loved your “Bring It” New Year’s message. As usual, you are inspirational and someone I’m reading every chance I get. As for your upcoming press interview, don’t sweat it. I was a newspaper writer for 13 years and the best advice I can give you is to just be yourself. Journalists look for people who know what they’re doing and are, preferably, quotable. The other part is to make yourself available for follow-up questions, particularly around deadline time, when editors ask many questions about the article. You’ll do great, I’m sure.

    I’m been thinking that somehow the crafty/designy blogosphere could band together and create a magazine to replace blueprint. It clearly had a loyal following. I nominate you to lead the charge (in your free time, ha ha).

    Well, if that won’t work, congrats!! on being featured in their final issue.

    oh wow, that’s amazing Holly! Congrats and good luck! You’ll have to share a link to the online article when it comes out for us non-Bostonians :)

    Congrats, Holly! Please don’t be nervous; I bet you’ll have a great time. After all, doesn’t it sound like fun to take someone on a tour of your favorite shops? It’s wonderful to see you’re getting more exposure. On a related note, do you have any ultimate professional goals for yourself — in other words, when will you feel like you’re as successful at this business as you want to be?

    Thank you ladies. I have to log off for the day now, as the Globe just informed me that I’ll need to dress up since the photographer will be in tow taking photos of me in the various stores, talking to shop owners, etc. I’ll bring my camera, perhaps they’ll let me take some photos of them too. :)

    NOW I AM DYING!!! NERVES!! Eek!

    Congrads on Blueprint! I hear Martha has decided to cancel the mag, not enough readers I guess they figure they look at blogs instead which is ironic I guess since you have a blog they love! I will have to go get that issue!
