fresh finds for hip spaces

Ballard Designs {new for spring}

Call me so yesterday, but I like Ballard Designs and have even shopped them in the past for clients. Ballard Designs sends “to the trade” emails as a way to give us a sneak peek of new collections in advance of their next catalog release to the public. I spotted a few things you may like so of course I have to share….

Okay so there’s this green and white Miranda Bedding that looks pretty nice — it’s all Kate Spade meets John Robshaw. Well that comparison works for me. I like the elegant Elden Cocktail Ottoman with it’s curvy legs and tufted top. Imagine the design book stacking opportunities on this thing! I’m also a fan of the affordable Seagrass Pendant because it has a Scandinavian vibe to it. I imagine a few of these hovering over a long farmer’s table just like the amazing Room Redux that Victoria recently pulled together for one of her blog readers right here. The Madeira Rug is another fave, great pattern — you notice it but it doesn’t dominate or battle with other patterns in a space.

    Love that rug. Wish it came in yellow.

    I like Ballard’s for ‘pull together’ pieces, especially when I luck out and find a great piece on sale at Ballard’s Backroom.

    As a total aside, what do think is a proper life expectancy (for lack of a better term) for a room? And if something is dated but you still love it, does it even matter? When I keep seeing new and beautiful things here on decor8 and elsewhere and love them enough to want to incorporate the item or idea into a space, I often wonder about the proper stopping point and how long I can keep it fresh? Sorry to ramble . . .

    why would you be called “so yesterday”, just because you like Ballard. Is it because you think most readers would consider the store not “hip”. If you like something, just say you like it, no need for an explanation. Everything doesn’t have to be indie all of the time.

    Oh how I loved the “table”

    Those pendants look like something out of an old Mary Tyler Moore show, so 70′s. They are upside down wicker trash cans… oh I feel so old…when everything old is new again. But I love how you present it. And for that other commenter..I read the other day from a season house stager that if your furniture and accessories are over ten years it’s time to update. I am more country than modern, but this blog is making me see things in a new light. I love it.

    Love that ottoman, I so see that in the living-room sized closet of my dreams…

    I think there are some nice pieces in Ballard from time to time. But I agree – those pendant lamps look like upside down trash cans. And I often feel they’re over-priced for the quality.

    As for updating rooms, there is no rule. Just make sure things aren’t worn out, scuffed up and tired. Sometimes just painting a room with fresh paint in a new color can spruce things up a lot.

    As for things not being hip? I’m with Holly. Who cares? If you like it, you like it.

    I’m about to click to order the green and white bedspread (that’s my absolute favorite color). Have any of you seen it in person? Is the fabric from Ballard generally nice and soft? I’ve never ordered from them.

    The bedding and room decor looks really good. Would love to have these designs, when I move into a house of my own!

    Ballard offers cost-effective alternatives to some of the other design houses. It’s not heirloom furniture, but it serves a purpose and can do it well.
