fresh finds for hip spaces

Traditional Home Magazine

I’m wrapping up another piece for the Boston Globe today, this time I’m showing some pendants and chandeliers. One that I’m including is the stunning Coral Pendant from Design Within Reach. I found this fantastic image on a blog called As I See It — the blogger makes a good point about this particular light because it really is hard to imagine it in an actual space outside of the DWR showroom. Seeing it here in this living room over at Traditional Home magazine really shows off just how lovely it is in a ‘real’ home.

In addition to that beautiful image, Traditional Home has a very inspiring website filled with large, full-color photographs. I’m not exactly a traditional girl when it comes to decorating, I appreciate these rooms and find many of them to have elements that I love. I can’t help feeling a little left out when I look at these rooms though, I don’t ever see myself living such a luxurious lifestyle but it is fun to peek in on those who do. Here are some of my favorite rooms for a little Friday inspiration. :)

And don’t forget to check out Marcia Cross’ chocolate and aqua velvet trailer on the set of Desperate Housewives at Universal Studios. A very swanky trailer!

I love the bright pink and green palette. It’s one of my favorites and I use it all the time in my designs. It’s so energetic and happy.

Omg, I’m loving the contemporary/design-y twist on the “traditional home”!

Love the outdoor “tent” looking porch room, with the lanterns and the fabric and that thing the doggie is laying in front of. I need that room!

I always find elements that I can use in Traditional Home, even though I am much more eclectic in my tastes. Sometimes one traditional item looks just as funky in a non traditional room, as a modern piece would. Thanks for the view!

Wow…love the picture of the child’s playroom with that amazing light. My playrooms never looked a thing like that growing up!

I agree – sometimes there is a Traditional Home issue that has alot of good ideas and eye candy in it. Haven’t used it much in my work, though – it’s a bit too swank for most of my clients!

I need to say, you posted some beautiful pictures from Traditional Home. I agree with you when you say you do not consider yourself a traditional girl when it comes to decorating; I am much more contemporary/eclectic, however I found the colorful living room, the fun playroom, and the Ikat tablecloth beautiful! And yes, the coral pendant IS amazing, especially when it is turned on! Will have to save for one!

How fun to discover this mention, thanks! It is amazing what the room does for the light, isn’t it?

Traditional Home is thinking a little out of the box these days. Those pink dining chairs are fabulous. Hmmmmm…I wonder if my sweet husband would sit in one? Thanks for sharing.

Lighting really adds a finishing touch, and dresses up any room. We recently purchased a chandelier for our playroom, and it made a huge difference. Got a great deal too off of Table Five Designs, 15 percent off and free shipping using coupon code lighting08 We purchased the Chloe Sphere, it’s beautiful http://tablefivedesigns.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=1&sort=&filter_id=87

Oh wow! Those first 4 photos describe my style/tastes to a tee! I never ever would have considered my tastes to be traditional but if that’s what traditional looks like these days then fine by me! Thanks for sharing this. I may just have to subscribe. :-)

These photos are fabulously inspiring (and not what comes to my mind when I think of traditional home)

PS The Boston Globe?! Holy moly. That makes this Boston-turned-Marrakech girl very happy:)

I love that first light. I think it would be perfect in a modern entryway.
