Beth wrote in yesterday from Eden Photography looking for frame help. She is trying to do something like you see in this photo with an empty display of painted ornate frames for her wall.

I suggested that she try Brocade Home, Urban Outfitters (ornate rose frame $14), and eBay (keyword search: ‘ornate frames‘ to paint). Then I thought that perhaps some of you have some ideas or sources for Beth…
Anyone want to help frame our friend Beth?

Framesbymail.com might have some and also regular home moulding can be cut into the shame of a frame very easily.

Thrift stores and flea markets! You can usually find very interesting frames at either. They also look very good if you have ornately framed mirrors and have a wall with both on them!

I bought a really pretty one from a garage sale for a few dollars. Although I admit they weren’t easy to come by, since I only found one out of about 30 garage sales that I visited!

Thrift stores are the best places to find frames, especially if you are the slightest bit crafty. Most people toss them if the glass gets broken or they lose hanging hardware.

What an awesome idea for wall decor!!

there are also some wholesalers that import frames very inexpensively.
They are way too over the top for framing artwork, imo, but they would work as painted wall art.
they advertise in Decor magazine-
wholesaleframes.com, art and frame direct, might be another. I don’t have a magazine right handy at the moment.

I saw that room on Design Aglow. If I remember correctly the space belongs to Jen Thompson in Oregon and her website is http://www.jenthompsonphotography.com

I would definitely suggest ebay.
I had a similar project for my apartment and found old wood frame on ebay that I painted with the colors I wanted.

I think you can find cheap frames at secondhand stores. Even at walmart if you get lucky. But i wouldn't suggest going to Urban outfitters, they can be way too pricey. You can always get a frame and paint it whatever color you like. I'd rather buy a cheaper frame and spend money on some cool looking paint. AND Yes EBAY is a god way to go too, if you dont mind paying for shipping.

my future-in-laws own an art & frame shop…I dumpster dive behind their store whenever they aren't looking. People constantly bring in gorgeous old frames to be redone…and the old frames get tossed…sad.

I have about 20 assorted-size frames like these, if anyone wants to buy them. I’m not set up for online shopping yet, but I’ll do a post about the ones I have, or email me (through my website) if you want some!
And they’re all vintage….

the etsy store sycamorestreetpress has some cool ornate printed mats (found via the poppytalk blog) … i think they’d look really cute on a wall mixed in with some ornate frames.

I have found many frames at tjmaxx and marshalls and ross stores..oh homegoods for frames that i have repainted.
I can’t tell how large those wall frames are but most picture frames come
the largest at 8×10′s. you could use ornate mirrors and repaint them for a smililar look. Again…same stores mentioned above.
my powder room is covered from floor to ceiling in small gold mirror frames in different but ornate shapes. I did this instead of wall paper or paint.
