Meg Mateo Ilasco contacted me recently to share the news — Modern Economy will hold its first ever online sale tomorrow! Meg, a designer herself, is known for her super fab day sales that she runs in San Francisco and LA a few times each year.
Meg is also known as the author of ?Craft Inc.: Turn Your Creative Hobby into a Business”, a popular book that has helped thousands of creative types find their path. My friend Anh-Minh attended one of her sales in San Francisco back in ’06 and blogged about it here in case you are curious to see what these sales are like in person. Since so many online responded favorably to her sales over the years wishing she’d host one in their city, she decided to do the next best thing — hold a big online sale in addition to her California events. Such a smart cookie!
In case you’ve not heard of Modern Economy it is an exclusive home & lifestyle sales event where you can find independent designers’ samples and overstock for up to 80% off retail. Participating companies include Ally Moon, Dwell, Agnes & Hoss, Deadly Squire, Good on Paper, and more (complete list here).
So! Details everyone: For 48 hours only starting Wednesday, October 8th at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time you can go to Modern Economy online and start shopping! BONUS: Meg will give the first 25 decor8 readers who order a free surprise gift tucked into your package. :) How nice is that?
So set those clocks for tomorrow everyone…

This is wonderful! I am so excited, but I tried to get on the website (modeconomysale.com) and it requested a password. Do I have to be a vendor to access the sale, or can i just be a regular buyer?

I went on at 9 PST, excited to find a good deal with Modern Economy.
I found a gorgeous pillow, $30, down from $150. Must have! I go through all the details.. only to find out, that to ship said *unstuffed* pillow costs over $75.
Yeah, the store might be having their first online sample sale, but they’re shooting up the handling price to make an outrageous profit from their sale. I mean, you could probally fit the unstuffed pillow in a letter envelope!
Thanks, I still can’t afford any pretty design pieces new. Back to the thrift store I must now crawl.. no silk pillow for me.
It’s just not fair! -cries-

Awesomely timely post considering the Dows recent drop. I thought this was going to be an economic piece but it was so much better… Lets all spend some money and help boost the economy.

I went by the sale yesterday and it was great. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to navigate! I definitely tracked-back to your link and hopefully I’ll get a little gift! (I’ll let you know!) Thanks for letting us know about these cool sales. Being in Nashville, it’s great to find out about online things I can participate in!

I was so excited about this sale and logged on at 9am sharp. I found about 5 beautiful but small things and my order only came to $51 dollars. Then when I went to check out, my shipping was $99!! I live in Canada and the only other shipping option besides US was for international and it was twice as much as my order. I was SO disappointed as I know that shipping costs to Canada from the USA are NOT that expensive, especially for pillow covers and tea towels. I sadly had to cancel my order.
Bummed in Canada….
