Daily Discounts: Susannah Conway from Unravelling

Susannah is a writer and photographer who lives and works in Bath, UK with an etsy shop called Unravelling that I’ve talked about here before. I’m quite fond of her photographs since they have a certain sensitivity to them, the lighting is sheer perfection, and her subject matter – mostly nature – is always exciting and fresh.

Susannah is offering decor8 readers a 20% discount on all prints in her Etsy store (and that includes all sizes). Throughout November she is also giving away a set of FREE Grace postcards ($10 value, see image above) with every print sold, so you can take advantage of that offer too! The discount code is: decor8unravel, please enter it in the notes section before paying and she’ll send you a revised invoice. This offer is valid until November 30, 2008.

Aren’t these so feminine and soft? Swoon!

Inspired By: A Fine Frenzy

I rarely devote an entire post to music but last night I went to one of the best alternative/indie concerts here in Hannover that I’ve seen in a while, A Fine Frenzy aka Alison Sudol a talented singer/songwriter/pianist from America. My husband wrote a really sweet review of it this morning on his blog (and he wrote about the pursuit of perfection in his post, you may really enjoy reading it).

I cannot possibly top his words I’ll just keep it simple and say that I really, really enjoyed Alison’s performance and encourage you to check out A Fine Frenzy, buy her CD “One Cell in the Sea”, and support this girl because she is brilliant. She’s touring Europe right now, you may be able to catch her live if you’re on this side of the pond. Tour dates here.

Her lyrics are magical, her voice is like silk, and her energy and enthusiasm for music is completely inspiring. She’s charming and gracious and seems to really enjoy speaking to her audience, another highlight for me since attending shows where the band barely speaks except to announce the title of their next song can make me feel like I’m sitting behind a wall of glass. Them. Me. Alison is welcoming and also very modest, she acts and dresses like a lady — I respect that about her style. Last night I felt like I was in Alison’s living room hanging out watching her play her piano despite the fact that I was in the 16th row in a very packed theater. She called Hannover a, “beautiful city” and thanked the audience for making someone very far from home (west coast) feel quite “at home”. That pleased me immensely.

If you love twinkle lights, warm cozy evenings at home, a fire… A bit of magic and whimsy, you will adore Alison’s music. Here is the song she opened with last night, Come On Come Out. Turn up your speakers and enjoy.

Psst: Alison designed the sweetest t-shirts for her tour, get yours here.

Etsy Take Five Tuesdays

It’s time for Etsy Take Five Tuesdays. Would you like to visit some fun shops this week along with me? Good, take my hand and let’s go. Here are five that I think you may like…

Can anyone ever get enough positive affirmation? I doubt it. Their isn’t enough sincerity in the world in my opinion – there’s a difference between being nice and meaning it from the heart. I find that the best way to pull myself up when I’m feeling a bit heavy at heart is to rely on the strength inside. You know, that ever glowing light that no one can take away. That is why I appreciate the work of Sarah Gardner so much, her positive art reminds us that we’re completely capable of finding answers within ourselves, of finding our inner hero.

When I hear the words “French” and “Illustrator” in the same sentence I feel a pattern of goosebumps form on my arm. There is just something about French illustration that has me at hello. Have you heard of Adolie Day? She has a lovely little Etsy shop and a new blog too, pouring with information about her art and life along with photos from art shows (like the one shown above) that she has been a part of. Not to mention her blog has some of the loveliest music to listen to as you browse… turn it up. Transporting!

Ladies & Gentlemen is the sweetest little vintage shop… I love their ornaments but I’d use this year round on tree branches. Ask my husband, I’m a branch addict — always bringing them into the house to decorate or hang above the window to decorate with glass balls… We have a small spider problem when I first bring them in but I place them outside so they can run back to their little webs. I imagine that they’re cheering, pumping their little spidey legs in the air (woot!) as I close the door, happy I spared their little life. I digress… Ladies & Gentlemen has the sweetest little decorative birds, animals, and fun shapes to play with whether you have a branch or not.

Morris & Essex has some great cards, folksy, modern, and I really like the homemade feel of the brown kraft paper. Fun! They are very warm and decorative, you can frame them to enjoy year round.

Village Clayworks, handmade ceramics by Catherine Reece, are totally sweet and make beautiful gifts I think. I especially like the little birdie vase.

I’m going to get dressed up now because we’re going to a concert – yay! See you back here tomorrow.

Daily Discounts: Port2Port Press

More discounts? Oh yes! I thought the discounts were over too but now I’ve been receiving a batch of email from some wonderful shops looking to give decor8 readers a little incentive to shop and some of these offers I cannot turn away. Like Port2Port Press. I just ordered her new calendar for 2009 (letterpress combined with photographs) yesterday so imagine my surprise when Maria wrote in today looking to give a discount to all of you. Of course I said yes. Then I did a happy dance.

I really like Port2Port Press and since this is her last shop update (she’s closing her online store), I guess she wants to go out with a bang so let’s give her a nice parting gift and shop her store, shall we?

She’s offering us 20% off*, use code ‘decor8′ upon checkout, and the offer is valid until midnight EST on Friday, November 21st. Everything in her shop was produced in limited numbers so don’t sit on the fence if you see something you like – grab it and run away happy! :)

*This discount does not include The Card Society, only items found here.
