Since Real Simple considers Super Bowl parties a theme, then yes. And definitely YES when it comes to Halloween. Love Halloween! A theme can make a party visually interesting and also give the guests a conversation starter. Even if you’ve simply decided that all the decor will be silver and purple or that all the food will be one bite… it’s a theme.

Yes, yes, yes! Apartment Therapy had some great inspiration for a 70s style, apres ski theme not too long ago that I would dying to try out if I didn’t live in Hawaii (which I think would make it a little too ridiculous).

All the time! LOST theme party, dogs birthday parties, travel themes. I love them.

I LOVE theme parties! I think the key is to use one or two elements of the theme in order to create a cohesive idea without overdoing it. I recently threw a Roaring 20′s party. We had a password at the door, played ragtime and early jazz music and we served beverages popular of the time. Some people came dressed in retro-inspired attire and some didn’t, but everyone enjoyed themselves!

I do and I love them! Our next theme party will be for Inauguration Night-come dressed as a politician!

I love theme parties. Halloween is a big one that I’ve been hosting for years. Costumes are a must! I’ve always wanted to host a masquerade ball. I recently attended a “tacky Christmas sweater” themed party which was hilarious!! The fact that the party has a theme is usually a good enough icebreaker for people to get to know each other.

Themes are the best starter point. It encourages guests to participate rather than just attend. I have theme parties all the time from formal Christmas dinners to Bring Your Own Pool Party. The crazier the better, stretches the imagination. I always leave a caveat though, if a guest doesn’t have time or can’t think of anything they should come anyway, I don’t want them staying home because they can’t find a hula skirt.

Oh yeah. I have an upcoming Inaugeration Party, and LOVE the ugly sweater Christmas party. I generally prefer to have a theme to help me organize food, drinks, and anything special I might want to play.

    Yes!

New Year’s was a wine and cheese party. In a couple of weeks I’m having an “All Things Bacon” Potluck. Can’t wait! :)
