Three words for this: Pimp my piano. Okay four. NOW. This is amazing. When I grow up I want to be Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos and live in the land of crochet pianos… Talk about doily love. This takes the doily to a whole new level. I so want something like this for my white flat screen television to give it some texture so it looks less plastic fantastic.

What a great find! This could come off as totally gaudy but instead it manages to be elegant and eye-catching. I love it!
The fact that you mentioned your white television in this post got me thinking about all of the different white designs that do (and don’t) go together. White-with-white design can be so difficult but it can also be so classy.
I’m wondering if you’ve ever used design idea-sharing sites (www.houzz.com is the example I know of) to create collections of ideas that all go together? I can definitely see you putting together a great collection of white designs using images like this and the TV. I’d love to see how something like that would turn out.
Thanks for the post – good stuff!

Thank you Marta again for the tip, yes I do like her very much. It’s amazing to see such intricate work on the web, I can only imagine how honored you must have felt to view it up close and personal. This type of work really makes me feel like there IS so much more out there that we’ve not seen yet. It’s exciting. Just when you think you’ve seen it all…

Oh my word!
That’s rather cool, although I could never do it to a real grand or baby grand piano. Maybe an upright or a digital? :P

Gorgeous! I’m really happy to see here my all time favorite Portuguese artist! She is The Artist and nobody represents Portugal like her, truly a fusion between the Portuguese roots and the contemporaneity of art. She is precious. I love ‘Contaminação’ and ‘Joia do Tejo’ :)

Wow!!! That is beautiful!!! I love the fact that the scale of the piano is somewhat disguised by the doilies. It could just as easily be a dollhouse toy – so pretty!

I appreciate the time and skill it would take to complete such a piece, but it’s really in poor taste, in my opinion. Way over the top. I don’t get this one at all.

YEY! I’m so proud of her:) I’m portuguese so you can imagine how having an artist like Joana is important to a small country like mine.
There’s also some controversy around her work too. A few years ago she made a chandelier with tampons and that was exhibited inside the most known and hip nightclub in Lisbon, Lux. Some people just didn’t understand it but all that talk contributed to make her name known and respected for the bigger part I believe.
Right now she has also a public installation or city art (don’t really know how to call it) where she was invited to create something to be on the outside of a building that it now being remodelled and that will later be a hotel. See here (http://www.artbuilding.eu/inst3_master.html) the photos.
