Speaking of creative types working together… one of my favorite photographers Susannah Conway told me about Favorite Things this morning. Favorite Things is a weekly Polaroid collaboration between Susannah and one of my other favorite photographers Alicia Bock.
How great is this duo, huh? Since they both enjoy their Polaroid SX-70 cameras, they each take a Polaroid photo of something each week and post the pairing on their blog Favorite Things without discussing what they’re going to photograph. Alicia sends Susannah her shot on Sunday night from the US and on Monday morning in the UK she places their photos together on the Favorite Things blog. Here are some of the results…
(this one above is my favorite I think. I love that muted blue green sky and the perfumes.)
You can find more work by these talented ladies in their Etsy shops: Susannah Conway and Alicia Bock.
In thinking about this project I imagined how it would feel for them to see their work together on Monday mornings and if either feel more inspired or challenged from this project. I imagine yes but Alicia and Susannah if you’re reading can you please share with us in the comments section how this project has benefited you?
And everyone else, if you are currently involved in a project like this where two or more artists have joined forces to work on a project, please link it below!

My favorite friend Amy and I have been collaborating since the beginning of 2008, first with Word. and now with Person. We were, of course, inspired by 3191, and Mondays have been our favorite day since we started. It gives us so much to look forward to and is such a challenge each week.

Hi Holly, thanks for such a lovely write-up about our project!
Monday mornings are fast becoming my favorite moment of the week, as i’m always excited to see what Alicia has sent me while i slept. As you mentioned above we don’t discuss what we’ll be photographing each week but i’m always amazed at how well the photos work together as pairs. Obviously it helps that we have a complementary way of seeing the world, and a passion for Polaroid! For me, the project is total inspiration, and a wonderful excuse to look at the things/people/places i love through my SX-70 viewfinder. There’s no pressure with this project – we’re simply enjoying taking pictures. I think collaborations between artists are such a great way to keep your eye fresh and rekindle your passion for your work over and over again…. Collaborating with Alicia is an absolute joy :)

:) i was very inspired by alicia and susannah’s project and so i teamed up with another polaroid junkie to create polaroid girls. we also don’t have a theme and i am always excited to see what kristen sends me and so far have loved our pairings.
i am also involved in a collaboration with three other canadian bloggers. we are taking turns issuing a challenge (a quote, a poem, etc) and then have two weeks to produce a response in the form of a photograph (which can include prose and/or poetry as well). We had our first posting last sunday and will be posting every second sunday. I loved our first quad :) Our blog can be found at the four
i think that so much beauty can be found in collaboration and have loved all the pairings that are going on around the internet. will definitely be coming back to check the comments so i can find more :)

Photos in pair like that are called diptychs and I just saw these on flickr and had to come read about the project. The photos are so lovely. I’m drawn to diptychs because I think it is so darn cool how the photos “talk” to each other!
I just started a collaboration project with diptychs and blogged about it today as I’m just diving into diptychs this week! :-)
I’ll post the following creations at flickr set Team Diptych!

Holly-
It was so wonderful of you to mention us today. I am thrilled!
Working on this has been nothing but fun. I love getting out my old camera each week, the musty smell, the sound of the rollers cranking out my photo… it all makes my heart beat fast.
Waking up on Monday’s to discover our latest set, makes my week start off so much better.
All of my normal business life is just me doing my own thing. I may work for a lot of people, but never with anyone. So it feels great to know I have a partner out there.

Great post for me. I just got inolved in a jewelry making challenge thats based on Project Runway. It was started last year by Annie of Imogene and a couple of weeks ago Alisa Miller revived it. I jumped in on week two. Finished my first piece this afternoon and it was just so much fun. really got my creative juices flowing. My pics will be up tomorrow, but here are the first week’s masterpieces. http://alisamiller.blogspot.com/2009/01/clothes-off-your-back.html
