I loved looking at the January/February issue of Real Living magazine yesterday (thanks, Amanda!) because it’s summer down under so naturally the issue reflects that — so happy and bright! All the yummy outdoor settings, beach houses, and umbrellas (they refer to them as brellys, so cute!) made me instantly feel warm and ready to collect shells on the beach. Given that it was 1 degree here yesterday, I have to live through the pages of this magazine for another few months! Have you heard of Real Living? It was voted Australia’s best home & food magazine for good reason — it’s gorgeous with attainable rooms that you can actually imagine affording and/or living in yourself. Here’s a glimpse of the issue I’m enjoying right now, the first one is my favorite because I want the blouse ($35 from Tree of Life) and that curtain made out from vintage handkerchiefs.
And this image below is from last year but I can’t resist posting it because the turquoise and the food is just so enticing!
Psst: Their Editor in Chief Deborah Bibby authors a blog with behind-the-scenes footage of shoots — love it!
Have a great long weekend (U.S. Holiday on Monday 19th) — I’ll see you here on Tuesday, January 20th!

I can’t believe I nearly forgot to post this and the event is in Los Angeles TOMORROW NIGHT. The Tinlark Gallery is throwing a party to celebrate their 2 year anniversary and along with the party they’re presenting the INSPIRED exhibit curated by 7 art & design bloggers and I’m one of the curators. I’ve never heard of a gallery working with bloggers before, this is indeed a first and I love it! A big thanks to Tinlark for inviting me, truly an honor (and it was always a dream of mine to curate an entire gallery event so this is almost as good)!
“Support from art and design bloggers has significantly contributed to Tinlark’s success, garnering the gallery an active and international fan and collector base. In celebration of Tinlark’s second anniversary, in homage and as an indebted nod to the influence of these bloggers, Tinlark gives a three-dimensional presence to the keen eye and artistic penchants of eight of the gallery’s favorite cyber pals. As Tinlark Gallery owner Cris McCall puts it, they are the “curators of her day”, so it seems fitting to have them curate the art for her second anniversary show, aptly located in Hollywood’s own Crossroads of the World. Each participant will showcase the talent of one or two of her favorite emerging artists culled from across the country.”
If you’re in L.A. tomorrow you will definitely want to catch this event…
Saturday, January 17, 6pm – ?? (dancing, cocktails, food, fun!)
6671 Sunset Blvd #1512
Parking available in the Crossroads of the World parking lot on Las Palmas just north of Sunset Blvd.

The work of Anna Wolf is just lovely and her online portfolio is certainly a joy to peruse. I’m sure you will recognize her work from some of your favorite magazines and catalogs. She’s everywhere!
I especially enjoy the photographs she’d taken for a past issue of Bust magazine showing a fun party and I liked how casual and welcoming they felt. I enjoy photos showing good times shared amongst friends, couples cooking together, mothers cuddling their young on the sofa. They are touching and you can’t help but want to cut and paste yourself right into the scene… I guess that’s precisely what a good photo should do. Please take some time this weekend to enjoy talented Anna Wolf and her incredible online portfolio. And a major bonus: She maintains a blog, too.

Today I came across the work of budding Indian photographer Purvi, also known as Mint IceTea, on Flickr. While I’m not sure if she sells her photography I felt so taken by her work that I just had to share a glimpse of it will all of you.
Beautiful work, Purvi. If she doesn’t have a shop she certainly should consider it. I’d love to see her work on my walls and really enjoy watching her grow with every new photo. So inspiring to witness an artist exploring and blossoming!

What a way to kick off a long holiday weekend! Look for me today in People magazine in their February 2009 Stylewatch issue… this is really exciting! A few months ago People asked me to be part of a select group of Style Experts they’d chosen to pull together a list of what’s hot to make The Hip List. I praised handmade as being hot and mentioned a few of my personal favorites out there. They took my list and not knowing who would make the cut, I took a deep breath this morning as I opened the issue. Ta-dah! They mentioned my top three: Etsy, DaWanda, and Boston-based Simplemente Blanco.
It’s great to be in People magazine because it is a completely new audience for me. I’m honored to be part of their panel of experts which includes: Melissa Lavigne, David Morrison, Ann Mack, Holly Brickley & Courtney Leeds, Amanda Freeman, Josh Kafka, Carolyn O’Neil, Helena Echlin, and Mia Kim.
Thanks, People mag!
