Illustrator Myrte de Zeeuw

April 23, 2009

I thought for a moment we’d escape to the The Netherlands to catch a glimpse of the work and home of illustrator Myrte de Zeeuw, who is obsessed with birds. Online, Myrte is also known as Mirthquake in case you’ve seen her during your web travels – she has an etsy shop and a blog.

Myrte and her boyfriend renovated an older home which meant new windows, new plumbing, and endless amounts of time fixing things up, room by room and like all the rest of us her home is a work in process. I really cannot imagine another way to live though — I can never call my home “finished”, I wouldn’t want to, the process is organic and special to me as I imagine it is for Myrte and those of you reading.

I like this grouping of frames, it’s challenging to hang so many as perfectly as this – nice job Myrte!

I’m drooling over these vintage 30s Belgium tiles in her foyer that she found during her travels. I would never replace them, not in a million years! I’m so glad to learn that Myrte feels the same way.

The blues, yellows, greens and grays in her home really appeal to me as does the array of pattern and style — I like mixing patterns so I appreciate what Myrte is going for here. Her dining room chairs are so pretty, she reupholstered them herself (and provides a tutorial here) with Heather Bailey fabrics. She also has a lovely kitchen, I like that there’s direct access to the outdoors through a gorgeous glass doorway. And just look at all of those transom windows — are you not dying to have the same in your home? Oh my! They allow so much light in and look so, so pretty. And don’t miss the William Morris wallpaper in the bedroom, very Victorian.

Thank you Myrte for writing to me and for sharing a peek of your home with us. If you would like to view more photos of her home please visit her home set on Flickr.
