How was your weekend? It was really nice for me to have a three day weekend, I feel so refreshed and eager to get started on my work this week. I finished many projects and read some books — I completed the Secrets of Simplicity (great organization book) and The Alchemist. Now I’m reading Eat, Pray, Love (after seeing the author speak over at TED about Nurturing Creativity) and Apart From The Crowd by an Irish author I’m following right now. There’s something about Spring… I read a ton of books this time of year more than any other season. Maybe it’s this nesting thing. I also picked up a bunch of new eco-friendly cleaning supplies at Lowe’s, and I guess I should get excited over cleaning supplies but the Rosemary Mint bathroom cleaner sounded to enticing to resist and as a result, I sorta can’t wait to try it out just to see if it works well but mostly to smell it (geek or what?). Another fun thing I did was a 4 mile hike at a local reservation with my trusty camera — I found lots of birds and muskrats to photograph. Nothing is in bloom here yet (wahhh), so I felt a bit limited since I primarily photograph flowers and trees, but being out in nature for a few uninterrupted hours felt wonderful. In addition to books, cleaning supplies, and a nature, I helped a local floral designer select colors for her new studio. We went with Valspar (Martha Stewart Colors) for the room: Apothecary Jar and Cake Stand Blue. She doesn’t have a lot of options with a very “picky” landlord so we decided on soft colors vs. brighter hues or wallpaper. She plans to have some fun with the space with accessories and such though the flowers will no doubt steal the show. I can’t wait to see how it looks when she is finished.

It’s a holiday weekend so I’m taking Monday off (well not really, I’ll just be working offline) so I’ll be back on Tuesday. These images are from a guest house in Holland (near the German border) called Bed of Flowers B&B and I’m smitten. Is this place not darling, where one would imagine writing the most lovely tales or wearing the prettiest dresses ever while picking fresh flowers? It is €95 per night for two persons, including breakfast – oh my what a great deal for such special accommodations.

She also enjoys hosting people from all over the world.” Well Ms. Bosch you may host me anytime because I’m smitten! What style and class this lady has, my goodness!

Anna from Absolutely Beautiful Things posted a room she loved a few days ago and when I spotted photographer Malin Ngoie, I couldn’t resist temptation! (I also love the name Malin, by the way.) Isn’t this photo so sweet? This almost looks like it was photographed in Germany, something about it really reminds me of my neighborhood there and the children’s clothing really makes me think of European kids in their colorful brightly patterned clothes!
After browsing her photos I learned that Malin specializes in photographing children and children’s products and the more I looked, the more apparent it became that she not only loves kids but obviously makes little ones feel comfortable and creative alongside with her. It was really fun for me to ’see’ this as I looked at each photo, imagining the work involved in getting children to feel your direction as an artist like she does… I’m so impressed by this.
I selected the above images because each one made me feel really cozy and at home. The first one, with the tulips and open cabinet revealing patterned china and wallpaper inside, speaks to the romantic in me. The bedroom, in white, with those elegant beige drapes pushed aside to reveal such beautiful doors (perhaps to a terrace?) give me visions of living in a darling city in an old, historic building — perhaps in France, England or Germany even. The wooden children’s bed looks vintage and is so pretty but also sturdy and adds a lot of warmth here, it’s sweet yet has presense. The living area, contained in what appears to be a three season porch, feels calm and summer-y. I like something about this room that actually shocks me for some reason, as I am not naturally attracted to this kind of thing – I love that painting of the tall ship. I actually love ships and when the tall ships tour in America and hit Boston each year, I usually go see them and tour as many as I can. My father had a boat when I was growing up, not a ship, but a humble boat with a small sleep space below and I loved going with my family to enjoy the water and the sunshine. I never, until this very moment, considered a painting of a ship as something I’d like to own but now I’m considering this as a future option when I need to purchase something for the walls.
