Luis Albuquerque Photography

I spotted Luis Albuquerque Photography over at Danielle’s post this morning about deep blues so I did a little digging to see what I could find out about this talented Toronto-based photographer. You know me and my still life photography fascination! My goal is that by highlighting the work of professional photographers from time to time I am helping to contribute to a greater good – namely to celebrate and honor their profession and encourage the purchasing of magazines, newspapers and books where their work is largely found. The print world is their bread and butter! Luis Albuquerque, a native of Portugal, resides in Toronto where he has been working as a commercial photographer for ten years. One of his clients is House & Home magazine where you may have seen it work already.

I love all the mini vignettes, they make me dream of rooms to decorate! So tell me, which of these three themes that I’ve pulled together spark your fancy? For me, the pastel imagery of course but the vintage grouping is a very closer runner up. Both satisfy my need for modern and vintage, soft and light, while also a bit rustic and cozy with a dash of childhood curiosity which I sometimes feel like I still have in many ways despite being all grown up. I also adore that office space because seeing bolts of fabric and bins of wrapping paper make me feel right at home. I could sit at that desk and have a ball with all those pretty things, you too?

So tell me… what grouping above do you connect to and why?

Hmmm…I really love all three – and I’m sure it would vary between the three depending on my moods. lol

I think the one I connected to the most was the vintage…ever since I was little I was always interested in those old pretties that seem to have been forgotten. These photos make me think of prowling through my grandmother’s old things! :)

Ashley totally. I loved to go through her jewelry boxes and this huge box of buttons her friend gave her from the button mill — all shapes, sizes and colors. You’re right those photos make me think of grandma too!!

pastels always catch my eye – but my home has almost no pastels in it. more of a muted palate with pops of color.

i love the bolds. there is a beautiful mix of a little bit of everything, old, new, eclectic, colors, contrasts and details. for me, the bold image brings some excitement, like a little girl going through her mother’s jewelry box…

Beautiful photography and very nice selections! Im definitely in the bold category. I love graphic design and I think that the strong contrasts carry over into that terrain.

I like the look of the Vintage set. It is distressed looking and just seems to pull you in and think who had used those objects and for what purpose. I like this grouping the most!

I love the Vintage arrangement with the bits and pieces of collected life, stories in each one with scars and texture. always leads me to wondering about what they’ve seen, where they’ve been, who held them etc…

I loved the bold set: the ball clock and rocking chair are two of my fave iconic items, and the plywood chair in the purple room is great, as well as the Books. Love Love Love Books. :) And the fabric on the cushion… possibly from Contemporary Cloth? Anyway, it’s very mid-century modern. Neat-O.

Oooh they are all so pretty. I gravitate towards the bold and the pastel….in the bold I love the ball clock image SO much. Those colors and shapes. I also have this inner “pastel lover” always lurking and dying to get out. I find those colors so soothing and clean and pretty and fresh!

I connected right away with the ‘vintage’. When things have a history or a life beyond sitting new on a shelf, there is a richness to them-they just make me want to add my own memories to theirs. An added connection was the block with the childrens toys. Now that my children are grown (my youngest is 20) there is an automatic nostalgia-a wistfulness-surrounding vintage toys (I always had plenty on hand for them).

i’m loving the bold set. i love how rich those colors are. i like that a color alone can hold a room together. unfussy.

Bolds all the way here. The saturated colors, modern forms, retro fabrics, stack of books, I could go on and on. Gorgeous!

Vintage set=love. I feel like all of those things just happened to end up together and weren’t planned in any way. Lately I’ve been loving random knick-knacks that could seem out of place but go together in some way. Those are the moments that really inspire me!
