Stylish Laptop Bag Round Up

In preparation for my move, I decided to pick up a laptop because the thought of my desktop being on a boat for two months suddenly made me realize that perhaps I should have an updated laptop on hand so I can work, duh right?! ha! So I ordered a new MacBook Pro (and I love it but I want to be clear – I’m both a PC and Mac – I like them equally and refuse to take sides) and as I sit here tapping away on the keys I’m considering a good bag to carry it in since I’ll be toting it around airports and in London next month.

Looking for Laptop Bags?

It’s always such a pain to find a nice laptop bag, isn’t it? I mean, they’re always black nylon whenever I shop local stores. I want one that rocks, like these handbags from Orla Kiely above. And while I have nothing against black, I do have a problem with being at airport security where everyone has a black bag on the conveyor belt. This is the same reason why I have Orla Kiely luggage — it certainly doesn’t blend! I’m waiting for the day when Kate Spade designs something in pink or turquoise leather with a fun interior…

Where do I go when I need group help? Twitter! With the aid of my dear Twitter friends I’ve compiled a list of places where you can find some nice laptop bags online in case you’re also looking for one. I’m not sure what I’ll end up with… If you have additional suggestions please comment below and I’ll revise this post to include your link too. Thank you!

I just tweeted this as well, but saw that you already posted so I thought I’d add a link to for laptop bags I love here as well… Etcetera Media was a booth neighbor of mine at the Boston Gift Show a few years ago, and I always remember their gorgeous felt bags… and they are made in Boston. http://shop.etceteramedia.com/collections/custom-collection

I usually toss my Macbook in my backpack when I travel with it, but I love Applesac’s laptop sleeves to keep it safe in my bag. I have the Amy Butler Peony Lace sleeve. http://www.applesac.com/peonylace.html

My favorite bag to haul my laptop in is from Queen Bee. I have a large trucker style bag and it holds my 17 inch laptop (which I put in a protective sleeve) perfectly while leaving room for the rest of my daily gear. Like my power cord, folders, notebook and things like my wallet (which is also Queen Bee) phone, pouch of stuff and pencil case. I’ve had my trucker for almost 5 years now and it has been all over the world with me. The strap is made from a seat belt and is adjustable so when I’m on the subway or in the airport I can have it across my body, leaving my hands free for hauling luggage or holding a coffee. I may sound like I work Queen Bee Creations, but I don’t! I just really love the quality of their products (handmade!) and I love supporting a small woman run business while I’m at it. http://www.queenbee-creations.com

A few years ago Coach had a diaper bag that became really popular as a laptop bag, so they changed the name of it. There are a lot of sleek ones out there that don’t look like a big fat quilted Vera Bradley that totally screams DIAPER BAG! You can even wrap the laptop in the little pad that comes with it.

Petunia Pickle Bottom has some really cute prints:

Good luck Holly! You’re totally gonna be a Mac after you get used to it!

I love the Jane Marvel line at Kolo and was so close to buying one of their bags, but I just couldn’t get over the logo interior. There’s also Lug.

As someone who travels a lot I’ve tried several options, but I’ve fallen hook, line and sinker for Lug, which has great travel accessories and a lovely laptop bag and laptop sleeves.

It’s funny, I often blog about laptop bags because I went on a similar quest a few years ago and have a Favorites folder stuffed with laptop bag links. I settled on this one from Carga: http://tinyurl.com/krbqja.
I still dream about this one from Freitag: http://tinyurl.com/nkqw75

My recommendations are one by Hable Construction and the German company HutUp makes some great pieces for laptops (more of a cover than an actual bag).

When I bought my laptop, I had about a week to figure out a bag for it before traveling, and had a tiny budget. There would’ve been no way that I could’ve afforded things from those websites, so I actually made my own!

Track and Field actually gave me the idea of making my own since theirs we so simple, but stylish. I really do love their work, and found out that they actually sell some of their items in a store called Paper~Ya (LOVELY store) on Granville Island in Vancouver, BC, for anyone in Vancouver who likes being able to see what they’re buying in person! I actually bought a set of their little animal pins.

So this is my suggestion to those on a few tight budget: Make it! It only took me an afternoon and it’s pretty much been around the world with me.

Here in Canada a company named Danica makes some nice laptop bags. I have one from a few seasons ago but I really like the ‘aviary’ that I have seen around lately. It’s sitting on the stool in this photo:

    Good luck with the search!

I work in a small sportswear clothing boutique and we just got cute computer bags in from a company called Haiku by Sharon Eisenhauer. They have very cute little details and are made out of washable materials in case they get dirty. Check them out!

I splurged on an Acme Made Designer Slim in Fleur Bleu (orange was sold out) for my 17″ Apple laptop a couple of years ago and get so many comments on it wherever I go. I love my laptop bag with a passion. Now I upgraded to a 15″ MacBook Pro and am trying to justify a new Acme Made bag that will fit it perfectly. I do love the slim but I would probably get a slim cargo next time because the power supply bulges out that far regardless, might as well be in a zippered pocket. Although I love my pattern and it’s not available as a cargo slim. Love Acme Made!

Hi – I love my Bensimon (http://www.bensimon.com/) laptop bag. It has a fab (but subtle) paris street graphic pattern on the outside but inside it’s a bright orange-y pink. Perfect! Sadly it’s a few seasons old so doubt if they’re still available…..

Hi Holly. Just a word of caution — don’t buy anything too heavy. I recently bought a beautiful leather bag, but once I add my laptop plus cords and paper goods, it’s so heavy that I actually hate traveling with it. Bummer, but lesson learned. Fabric or neoprene is the way to go!

but after traveling a ton, i think the best is to find a travel tote you like and then just get a cute sleeve. since you can only have a roll-on bag plus a personal item on the plane with you, the tote has to carry your laptop and magazines, water, snacks and be your purse too. i’ve ended up with one of those land’s end-type totes (http://tinyurl.com/l5zrke), which isn’t my style ideal, but since i know the bag will be at my feet and get dirty, i don’t want anything too precious. this way i don’t get bummed like i know i would if i got a bag i loved and then it got messed up. sorry – that’s not a very fun answer!

Hi Holly! Congrats on the Macbook Pro! You’re just like me, not taking sides on the PC vs Mac debate! :) I actually have that Orla Kiely bag (bought for a discount thanks to you!), and with a laptop inside it’s very heavy. I had to go back to the standard black bag. The Orla bag is super cute though.

I have the Lexie Barnes Echo and I LOVE it! It’s got just enough room for my laptop, power cord, and gadgets. But it’s also small enough to tuck into a bigger bag if I need to. I didn’t see them on her website right now, but I found this review: http://bit.ly/OCkR5.

Great post! I totally understand your dilemma-I moved to Thailand two years ago and ran into the same problem. I happen to be a designer so decided to start my own line of laptop bags-they’ll be available online around the first week of August at http://www.nokhoolaptopbags.com.

My goal was to make bags that are cute, comfortable and well-padded. Here are a few sneak peeks from my blog: http://nokhoo.blogspot.com/search/label/laptop%20bags... more to come!

I bought my laptop case from SNAP design (http://www.snapcatalog.com/bags.php?cat=laptopcases) a couple of years ago, and just yesterday, came across some cute sleeves and cases from Fabrix (http://www.fabrixcases.com/v2/collection/laptop/). Hope you find one that you love! I know how hard it is to find a good but pretty case.
