Hello friends… it’s me Holly checking in to say hello. How was your weekend? What did you do? I had a very balanced weekend — I got a lot of things done (shopping, organizing, flea market visit), but also enjoyed some relaxing times too. See this shelf below, it’s in my kitchen which I love cooking in by the way. It’s so sunny and everything is new so it has that showroom feel. I wish the “new car smell” would last forever! And by the way… the weather has been beyond beautiful since we stepped off the plane so I’m very grateful for all of the sunshine. Today it will be sunny and 9o.
Last night I wrapped up the weekend at our neighborhood bar, Blattgold. Remember it? I showed you a glimpse of it before — if you missed it here’s the post. I’m on a crazy detox/fast program so no mojitos for me… I only had a ginger/orange Bionade but still… it was fun to hang out at Blattgold and to listen to Bob Marley and Clueso – a band I’m really enjoying right now that I highly suggest checking out.
How about you? How was your weekend? What did you do?

Hi Holly! Blattgold looks like such a cool bar and the decor is lovely. Sounds as if you’ve had a great weekend. I spent the weekend researching inspirational places to visit in NYC as I’m visiting friends over there this weekend. Very excited! Have a great week.

Will — In NYC I suggest visiting an Anthropologie store, Kate Spade in SoHo (they just renovated it), any Jonathan Adler shop, Auto (store), Purl Soho (sew shop in SoHo), the MoMA (my fave museum in the states outside of the Getty in LA), and John Derian’s store. Gosh there are so many — go to my tabs section and click on SHOPS and look until NYC for more of my suggestions. Have fun!

Hello Frau Heuberg! I must come visit – how far is your town from Hannover by train? I’d love to see it!!!
August 17th, 2009 at 5:47 am
We had friends over – after weeks of frenzied cleaning and setting up the new apartment. What a rush! Good times, though!
This is my husbands last week of summer vacay before heading back to work, so I am enjoying the odd free morning to cruise the net before getting back to projects. After this week I’ll resume regular blogging and working on my own ‘work’ stuff.

Hello Holly!
Blattgold looks like a nice place to drink mojitos (or Bionade :-)
I spent my weekend with packing and moving. You just see how much stuff you own when you start moving. Horrible! But I am looking forward to decorating my new place, its going to be gorgeus! :-)
My weekend wasn’t all work, I attended a beautiful wedding, held in the chapel of the Schönbrunn-Castle (www.schoenbrunn.at) very romantic!

In a few minutes it will be Tuesday here in New Zealand. I was just chatting to a friend in Wales and it was lunchtime there. Our spring begins officially on September 1st, but I have just had a couple of weeks off work so have spent it doing all my spring cleaning. It feels wonderful, walking around the house. Everything is lovely and clean and uncluttered and perfect. Sad to think that even by tomorrow night no doubt the decline will begin, lol. One thing not put away because I forgot or didn’t see it. And then there will be two……

Sounds like you are having a wonderful time Holly and are perfectly at home there.
You asked what your blog readers did over the weekend… I worked on more of my paper wreaths, and more importantly, I went to my in-laws’ 50th (yes 50th!!!) wedding anniversary party / cookout. Can you imagine the devotion and love? We had a great time!

Looks like you’re enjoying Germany and have been blessed with good weather :) We have had a gentle weekend – on Saturday we drove to Castell Coch in Wales … its SO beautiful – like a fairytale castle. Definitely worth a visit … and then spent the evening watching TED talks in bed (we haven’t got a TV). Sunday we woke up REALLY early and went to Cheddar (where the cheese comes from!) to a huge flea market. Didn’t really find anything – I think the best stuff goes really early and we are a bit broke after our wedding anyways. We then came back, having picked up lots of organic cheese; and stopped off at a friends for lunch; in exchange for us doing a lot of hole filling with polyfilla (spackling paste) in his new house … we love our life …

It sounds like you had a GREAT weekend! I spent the weekend at a first birthday party, a going away party, and a brunch party. Now I need to get to the organizing that I should have done, but I’d really rather find a flea market to explore.

Holly, I’m so glad you had a fruitful, peaceful weekend. That all sounds lovely. I love your shelf – and can’t wait to see more of your new home!
I spent the weekend doing house projects – repainted the dining room and the ceiling in the den, did some “musical curtains” (swapped panels around), and set up our new little office in the little bedroom upstairs… Now that I’ve thought about it and actually listed it – I got a lot done! I’ll have to post pics of the spaces when I get a chance…For now, have a lovely Monday and rest of the week!

It has been a delight following your adventures at your new home :)
My weekend was nothing exciting – my mum is in San Diego for a wedding, so I visited her house each day to feed her cat. Otherwise, mostly just laziness.

Holly – fab! Thank you so much for these tips. I’m so excited to explore – it was the middle of winter last time I went, which was lovely and romantic, but so cold you couldn’t stay out exploring for hours at a time! I’ve heard rumours that an Anthropologie store might be opening up in the UK sometime soon, which would seriously rock!

Hi, Holly…I’m new to Decor8 and loving it – all of it! I started my blog to show-and-tell my bungalow redecorating and haven’t made much progress, mostly for lack of money. But scraping wallpaper costs nothing, so no excuses, right? Anyway, it’s cool that you’re in Germany now. It’s a place I’ve wanted to visit – I’m 1/4 German. I would head straight to Blattgold for the decor and music, and if I can ever get my brother to go see the world, he’d be there for the beer.

We bought some much-needed stuff at ikea this weekend – the fab “ps maskros” chandelier and some window treatments, so that’s our work for the week – setting it all up and hoping not to end up with extra pieces!
WILL – you should definitely get to one of the farmers markets in the city. i know the union square one is open most days, and there is a terrific one in midtown on 47th and 2nd which is on wednesdays. i posted about it a couple weeks back on my blog, check it out:

Just had a fantastic day yesterday.
Let me set up the background:
- for much of the summer, it’s been cool (which I like very much) and wet (which I didn’t care for). It’s been like this until early last week, when it got summer-like: high 20s with humidity pushing it the temperature to feel like in the mid-30s or high-30s, sun, no rain, and no gloomy clouds.
- I was suppose to host a get-together of a few friends, but this plan fell apart as all but one felt that they couldn’t make it for their own reasons.
- I have been talking with a friend about whether or not our mutual friend has come back from travelling in Asia and USA for a month as we’ve not heard from her by email, FB, or phone. We’ve been going back and forth about this for a week and about her own travel plans of going to down south starting next week. Then, out of the blue last Friday afternoon, the MIA friend sent us an email saying that she’s been back for two and has been hiding out because she’s been catching up on sleep for a week and then organizing everything for another, while neglecting her emails. So, I realized that we don’t have many days left that we can meet up because one will be travelling in a couple of days. So, I decided to invite them down for a spontaneous get together. They decided to do it, ditched their plans, and came down to visit me.
So, imagine this: a bright, sunny, warm, clear, and slightly hazy day. Tour around the town as my two friends haven’t been here before, before taking off to the local “escape” countryside – Prince Edward County. Had some good lunch at a winery where we sat outdoors in the middle of a vineyard, overlooking Lake Ontario, with some live jazz music. Then, after picking up some snacks at a grocery store, we headed off to the beach to escape the afternoon heat for a few hours. Found a nice spot sandwiched between the sand dunes and a lake that’s ever so delicately separated from Lake Ontario (which is probably dirtier), shaded by two leafy trees at the top of the sand dune, with less crowds than the ever so popular Outlet Beach at the same provincial park. Waited out til the exodus of beach goers heading back to home on a Sunday night, then called the day at the beach. Headed back into town for some Greek take-out food that we had in my back porch. Then my friends felt that it was time to go as it was nearly 9pm.
What a fantastic day! I want to do it all over again!
At least, it did really happen and it’ll be a memorable trip.
Now, I’m thinking why haven’t I hit the beach before as it’s only a 30-40 minute drive from here?! I may just have to head over, but the weather is changing. I guess I’ll have to wait til the stars are aligned and work to my favour once again.

Hi Holly, Good to have you with us at least on a part-time basis. I’ve missed your regular posts and daily “surprises.” That said, I’m really enjoying glimpses of the favorite things of all the creative people featured here the past couple of weeks. I love seeing how other people style their home and have been absorbing their daily nuggets of wisdom.
This is such a lovely image. Your photos are always so dreamy and full of objects with so much character. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your new life.

Happy to hear that you’re settling in. Your shelf looks lovely already! Any good flea market finds?
I’ve started pre-packing for my fall move. Already wanting to shop and redecorate and we haven’t even found a new place yet! We also went to a free concert at the Seattle Center. Are you a fan of The Dodos? You’d like them, I think. And my boy has recently turned me on to a band called “Phoenix” that you might like as well. I’m probably telling you about all these bands you’ve known for years!

We visited with friends on Saturday and shared the dishes we made over lunch.
