Hello everyone and happy Friday! Today I have a special home tour to share with you from a talented graphic designer in Belgium, Yves Drieghe who is the designer/owner Kaartjeshuis and I LOVE DEER (an e-shop that loves deer and will be offering you them with a fresh look on your wardrobe and more that ships worldwide). Yves and his partner Bert recently moved to a new home that has such a fresh, clean aesthetic and gorgeous view of the countryside. I simply couldn’t resist sharing these snaps of their home with you today. If you have any questions for Yves and Bert about the things that you see, please ask below in the comments section so that they may reply. I love the lightness of his space, the mixture of old and new, and though minimalistic there are still many things that make this space feel warm and cozy. I’m sure you will agree! Let’s get started, shall we… Prepare to drool. The text below was written by Yves, so details about this space to follow…
Something about the process first. Bert and I wanted to combine different things. First of all living in the country (after living in the city), secondly open spaces and daylight, some ecological principles and last: a budget. The house was originally build as a gatekeeper’s or border controll house (in the beginning of the previous century), but has been rebuilt several times over the years. We stripped the house from all annexes, and removed all inner walls as well. We rebuilt with an eco-touch on the outside: a big wooden box was put against the old house (with eco-labeled wood for the box & windows, and solar panels on the roof).
Inside the house we wanted space, and an open atmosphere, which links perfectly to the big windows around the house (over 40 square metre downstairs), and the lack of doors (only the toilet and the wash room have one). It also highly reflects in the Kitchen (our favorite place in the house): low cabinets, and base colors, and a huge 4 x 2,5 m window make the quite big space even more spacious. The decorating finds its origin in Scandinavian design, but mixed with all different sorts of accessories, furnishings and very important for us: Prints! We love design, and good-looking things, but also think it does not have to be expensive to be great. This makes us mix all sorts of things until we find the ideal combination. Think of furniture and accessories found on flee markets or second-hand shops, inherited from old family, and some IKEA stuff (e.g. The IKEA PS Hella Jongerius vases or wall decoration, and numerous prints we’ve bought online. Next to that, we always like a twinkle in the eye and we just love deers… (in case you didn’t notice).
Do you have a favorite nook that you see above? What about a favorite object? I love the dining room space with that country view and my favorite object is the stool with the black lace pattern on top. :) I also like the white china cabinet because it reminds me of a vintage medicine cabinet and I’ve been wanting something like it for a few years now… Lovely views of your home, Yves. Thank you so much for sharing these with us today.

Fantástico!!! You’ve got a delicious taste, Yves!
I absolutely adore the huge light bulb with the yellow bulbholder. We’re looking for something similar for our appartment. Where can we get hold of something similar?

I love the glass vintage cabinet. Sadly, I didn’t snatch a similar one I saw in a thrift store years ago. And I love, love the china cabinet and pretty colors displayed within. Simply lovely!

Yves & Bert, your home is breathtaking! I especially like your floors, and all the pendant lights that I can see. I’m also loving how you have little pops of bright colour among the pales and neutrals- especially the turquoise table in the bathroom, and those bright yellow table legs!

Ah, that Scandi aesthetic gets me every time, inviting nature in, keeping lines clean and polished (love the creamy dining chairs, the long, long table, the cup pendant light – could we have a tutorial please?, the black and yellow pots & crockery, the doctor’s cabinet, the worn cement floors, the quirky rabbit lamp, the BATH with its gorgeous wonky tiles and beautiful sink / console and tub…the LIGHT, and AIRINESS, oh yes. When you’re in the city and a bit cramped for space this kind of set up just sings! Thanks for sharing!

And about the floor: go ahead with the concrete! It’s not uncommon in Europe to do it like that, and very floor-heating-friendly ;).
If you want to get out the old carpet, you can easily treat your concrete so it resists daily use by polishing it.
Don’t hesitate to ask if you want to know some more details!

Wow and Wow…… It is so inspirational especially since we are going to move into a house with concrete floor like yours. I’d appreciate it very much if you can provide the source.
1) bathroom tile.
2) info about paint–turquiose, yellow, and cabinet (11th picture)
Since we need to remodel bathroom, I’d appreciate it especially if you can send me the photo that shows the whole bathroom.
Oh my God! It is so beautiful house.
