When I saw this photo today on the Twins’ Garden blog, I couldn’t resist sharing because I love it so much. Well, of course I adore little animals and the one thing I miss the most about living in New England is that here in Germany we have no chipmunks! That’s right, none! But thankfully we do have squirrels but not gray and large like the ones in Boston — they are smaller and bright red with huge furry ears. They are the cutest creatures ever! But I do miss the chipmunks… I would love to hold one like this. Yesterday I went to beautiful park where deer roam free, I saw dozens of them and bucks too and since this is nothing I’d see so easily back home, I guess I’ve traded the chipmunks for the deer and okay, that’s fine but still… just look at this cuteness…

Aw…adorable! I’ve always wanted to see a European squirrel since the gray squirrels around me are pretty feisty. You see, I work in higher education and collegiate squirrels are brash and unimpressed by humans. They are not cute when they are trying to take your lunch!
I have never seen a cuter chipmunk, though. What a shot!

That one is a baby though, his ears aren’t as furry yet. :)

Aww. What a gorgeous photo!
You may have traded chipmunks for deer, but you still have the cute-factor because fawns are so, so sweet.

Yes Alexis – you are right. How could I forget the dear little hedgehogs. And we have snails all over the place in the prettiest shells and chestnuts in these really unique-looking sci-fi like pods. :) Oh and acorns – tons of them. :)

This is so sweet! I love chipmunks too, I always get excited when I see one. Those little red squirrels sound cute too. I remember the first time I saw squirrels in Toronto and couldn’t believe they were black, I simply had no idea squirrels could be anything other than grey. :)

I have to comment because I live in NH and my house is right in front of some woods (right beyond my back deck) and the little chipmunks are busy ‘talking’ all day – chirping loudly!! sometimes its the first sound I hear in the morning! they are adorable and my cat loves to watch them run in and out of the rocks and play with each other. When I was a kid, I had mice as pets and then a pet gerbil named Charlie – they are cute too.

Adorable! This would have fulfilled my ultimate fantasy as a little girl. My mom would take me to this park filled with chipmunks and I would chase them around just dreaming of being able to hold one for a few moments! It’s probably best I never got hold of one at that age though.

So cute! I love to watch the little chipmucks scurrying around on my walk. They run so fast with their tails straight up in the air.
I agree with Jeannine the collegiate squirrels really are fearless.
