They have the most amazing selection of succulents (hard to find around here) aside from all the other goodness. They also have a great coffee shop and serve yummy lunch and dinner. I'd be glad to meet anyone there who comes for a visit!

The forest was a gift to the people of Hannover, given to them by the King of England who once had a castle and gardens here, he was a duo king over England and the Kingdom of Hannover (Germany). So anyway, this forest is "natural" not man made, and massive. Part of it has a zoo, another part has a wild life park where deer/bucks run free, and another part has a bird sanctuary. Then there are beer gardens that are here and there around the edges, and the forest borders several districts here, including the List, where we live. Inside the forest there are many playgrounds, streams, a few open spots for relaxing on a blanket in the summer, a few kindergartens, a mini golf, ponds, a few outdoor cafes, a small petting zoo, a few bathrooms, and both natural dirt trails along with a few paved bike paths. You can also find boars (but they won't bother you, and they are hard to find), deer, hedgehogs, red squirrels, ducks, birds, and birdhouses on hundreds of trees. There are so many species of trees I lost count. Snails and slugs abound. And there is this turf labyrith dating back to 1642, it's intact and beautiful. Sculptures mark the entrances to the forest in many places (not all) and you can find a few sculptures inside as well in very random places. Every park bench has a small trash can next to it. You won't find trash on the ground, it's spotless. And it's safe, you can go in anytime of the day or even the night. And no "activity" if you know what I mean, we don't have that to deal with here (drugs, sex) in the forest. Lots of joggers, people on bikes, walkers, walkers with these poles that remind me of cross country skiing, dogs, kids, kids in wagons, it's a place for all. One path is paved and runs through the center and it's illuminated at night since here there is a big biking culture and that path is the shortcut from one district to the other. I've never in my life been to a forest in the middle of a city like this... it's very, very green and air is fresh and lovely. It's around 1,600 acres total. I step off of the train and walk a block to the right and I'm suddenly immersed in a forest, it's like going from Boston to the most secluded path in the White Mountains within 3 minutes. Here's a good aerial view of it: http://www.iso4.de/temp/555__500x333__Eilenriede%201.jpg

Nichole – You just have to come visit me. :) No, seriously — I have tons in my Flickr photostream. Spring is still making a small impression though, the flowers are all out in my garden and no more frosts and foggy mornings on our farm! The summers may be sweltering here in Murrindindi but the winters are a bit chilly too!
