IKEA Spring/Summer Preview

I shared with Real Simple readers some of my favorite products from the new IKEA Spring/Summer collection that we can expect to see in stores as early as February. Can you believe it? Soon we’ll be seeing Valentine’s day and Easter goodies along with catalogs sporting Summer fashion. I’m already receiving Spring fashion catalogs in the mail. I’m not ready yet, but I’m thinking by mid February I’ll be all over the idea of sunshine and walking the beach. For now, I’m cuddled beneath my knit blanket with candles aglow basking in winter’s beauty. But I can already feel a gentle nudge towards Spring, can’t you?

I have my eye on that outdoor table and chair set, I love that the table has a hole in the top for draining water and that the feet are wide to provide more stability. I’m starting to look for a new place to live again (I stopped during the month of December) and one requirement is outdoor space, whether it be a patio or balcony, I’ll take anything. My hope is to have a balcony that I can decorate with a bistro set like this one and add some plants and candles and if there’s room, a little corner with a cozy chair for reading and getting some sun. I can’t imagine moving again, but this time it’s local so it won’t be nearly as challenging as moving overseas. And when I move, I’ll share the process with you on decor8 in addition to views of my home and some DIY stuff. That will be fun and will certainly make moving a lot more interesting to me to have someone to share it with. :)

I love the table and chairs too! One of my “goals” for 2010 is to make our outdoor space PRETTY…a place where we would WANT to spend time. Right now we keep the blinds shut so we don’t have to even see the space.

I’ve always really liked Ikea. I have quite a few pieces of furniture and decor from Ikea in my home mixed with my craigslist and vintage finds. Happy home shopping for the new year. I hope you are able to quickly find a space that suits you well. Patios or decks are really nice to have, if you can’t have your own yard and you don’t have to mow any lawns.

I go to Ikea about once per quarter and I MUST go with a list otherwise I get overwhelmed. I love to go on a school/work day too so it’s not so crazy. I think those blue patio chairs are going to be on my list: 2 please!

I am a huge fan of Ikea. I own a few furniture pieces and some dinnerware from Ikea which I really enjoy! I have to drive an hour one side to get to the store but it’s all seems worth it every time I return home with my car’s trunk full of goodies.

Having an outdoor place even if it is the smallest one is priceless! I’ve been living in a house with a small yard all my life and now that I moved to “the big city” I have the tiniest balcony and I started to really appreciate our small yard:) I can’t imagine living without a balcony at least, so I’m keeping fingers crossed that you find a lovely place that meets your criteria :)
I also really enjoyed the posts about your home on Haus Maus and I can’t wait to see what you will come up with in your new one:)

Have a lovely day, Holly and good luck with the search! xo

love love the outdoor metal chairs, very inspired by Fermob’s Luxembourg chairs http://www.fermob.com/en/private/products/seats/Luxembourg/Stacking-chair-4101.html, themselves inspired by the chairs in the Luxembourg garden in Paris.

Hi Kim – I have a duvet from Ikea, and I LOVE it. I formerly used a much more expensive one from Anthro and my comforter slid all over the place. The material isn’t super soft at first but is lovely once you wash it. I imagine the same is true for the sheets.

Back to the post…I have to say that I can’t stand all the Spring previews, only because it’s negative 10 windchill in Chicago. Spring is…ohhh…at least four months away. I went to J Crew this weekend, and they were selling shorts and bikinis! Granted, people vacation, but it’s such a cruel contrast to the bitter weather we’re having.

On the plus side, all this stuff will be on sale by the time it finally warms up.

Karine – I thought the same thing but the materials from IKEA said specifically that it’s for water draining. Perhaps for an umbrella too though I’m not sure!

ooooohhhhhh I *love* the paper lamps :-) I remember a time more than 10 years ago they sold similar ones…I had some but the cats liked to play with them, too…now the cats are growed up and prefer more hanging around ;-) ;-)

but…I was before Christmas at our local Ikea….and was a bit disappointed….Chaos everywhere, really everywhere and I asked for some special floor ciushions and the staff told me I should buy pillows for the bed….*ahem*…I told her that this kind of pillows are not enough stuffed to sit on it on the floor (in case I use this I will sit on the floor and not on the pillow…)..and she told me that I should use them….and I said again, no it doesn´t works….*strange*…and the food in the restaurant…I remember a time when I loved to have a little lunch there….now..not anymore :-(

<3 Ikea. They have some very cute stuff coming out! I love the buffet but it actually seems a touch high for Ikea, perhaps I'm picturing it being smaller. I think I'll do something with circles on a furniture piece soon though, it's lovely!

Sadly the closest Ikea is a terrible 6 hours from me, which should be illegal.

Hi Holly, I am loving the preview and it comes at a great time as my housemate has just moved out and I finally have some SPACE to fill :) However, I wonder, will the German IKEA also sell these goodies from Feb??

    Thanks for keeping me inspired…
