House Doctor: Spring!
Lots of catalogs and press releases are flying in all of a sudden, my head is trying to enjoy winter but everyone else is telling me that it’s time to think of spring. I’m almost scared to go into stores, I imagine I’ll see bikinis and beach towels as I stand before them in snow boots and mittens thinking What the….?. It’s hard to get into the spring mood when it’s snowing outside and minus 500 degrees but that’s how the world spins. Christmas is over and I’m already being asked what I plan to do for Easter and where I’ll take holiday this summer. I think there are so many books out there on enjoying the moment for this very reason, no one will ever let us! And now you have me, joining the masses with a chipper peak of lovely products for spring. But I just caved the moment I saw the new House Doctor catalog. See why?
This is a big name in Germany, but it’s not a German brand but a Danish one. Have you heard of them? Several stores in my neighborhood carry their wares and it always pleases me whenever I have some extra change to splurge on some of their things because they’re really quite delightful. Would you like to pause from your winter moment to look forward to spring with me? I promise, only for a moment. Not to depress you! Then we’ll get right back to the regularly scheduled program of candles and mittens and snow, oh my!
I see so many great styling ideas, don’t you? And wow, if you aren’t a lover of purple these rooms may convert you as each seems to have a dash of violet somewhere. I love their recycled bohemian vibe, it’s very laid back and quirky, fun! About this collection House Doctor says, “Everyday 2010 is a collection where colour, shape/design and function are all dominant elements. The style is provocative, personal and not too formal. We believe that the time right now is a time for mixing the elements rather than matching the elements.”
Thanks mausumi for the reminder by the way…

Hi Holly
This is my second comment on this post but i’ve just got to say…
I don’t know what i’d do without all of your inspiration!!! Your images are always so beautiful, and your words are so encouraging and full of postiveness and… well I’m not so capable of writing like you are so I can’t find the correct words but I’m sure you get the jist.
I work on my own and have my own business, this is a new thing for me and I find your blog really makes my day.
I’ve come to rely on all of your wonderful inspiration.
Thank you.

I’m loving all the color. Not sure if I could replicate the look but it looks lovely in the photos. I especially love the photo of the kitchen with the white hanging boxes/cabinets with different patterns in the back. What a great idea! (Photo with “on display get inspired!”) Definitely something I could replicate with pretty wrapping paper, fabric or wallpaper.

“We believe that the time right now is a time for mixing the elements rather than matching the elements.” – amen! Interiors become so interesting and unique when you mix different styles even cultures. Lovely, lovely photos! Oh, and I think that most of these ideas are great not only for spring but also for the winter – violet and blue are lovely for the winter I think. I like the boxes gathered all together and I saw s lovely bench that could work as inspiration for the project I have for my “living area”. Thank you so much for sharing these!

I’m with Laura G – hooray, patchwork trunk !
you could easily make your own version… select fabrics, iron onto fusible light- weight interfacing to give body and stiffness and prevent ravels, cut into octagons, use spray adhesive, affix octagons. maybe topcoat with envirotex or a coat or two of clear spray for a more durable finish.
you could do this on any piece of furniture, or line the back of a bookcase or cabinet, or non-fronted kitchen cabinets, or do it on foamcore and frame it …

Holly,
I have to say that House Doctor beats West Elm hands down. I actually love West Elm, but here, stateside, you have to be sooo careful how you use it it. It s very recognizable because it is so well marketed. Too much and you look like a storefront without any imagination. The trick is to cherry pick their wares and mix them in with a lot of unique “found” items. House Doctor seems much more original. I don’t want you to miss West Elm too much….. Best, Lynn Byrne from Decor Arts Now.

Hey Holly,
I first came across house doctor when the Lindgren Hus in Velgen opened (they sort of belong to Deerberg). It’s a Swedish-style house full of house doctor stuff and I wanted to buy everything! If you have a chance you should visit, the whole house is really beautiful!
It’s half an hour away from where I live (Lüneburg) so it’s not really close to Hannover, but definitely worth it!

I discovered it last year thanks to your previous posts about their products and as a result I have tracked them down and have started selling their products in my online shop. I only have a small collection at the moment but I will definitely be expanding, the trouble is I want everything in the catalogue and can’t whittle it down to a sensible number of items!! Help! Found a great web shop with lots of House Doctor products. I have seen other web shops but not as many products as they have. They have a lot of other Danish products too. Have not shopped yet but plan to very soon! I can not decide what I want to buy.
By the way, it is in Swedish but when I wrote them, they said they ship world wide and soon will have it in English by Spring 2011! Lucky us!
