Doing Is Believing

What a great thing to consider on a Friday as we approach a new weekend, Doing Is Believing! It’s so true, isn’t it? I was going to post something love-related having to do with couples, but you know I think loving yourself is more important than even loving another person and with so many single ladies (and men!) out there trying to find a match and put a ring on it, this weekend can really bite hard. I remember when I was single how alone I felt in stores with all that candy and romance in the air. So we’re not going to talk about love and hearts and how wonderful it is to find the perfect someone.

Keep Calm Gallery

Let’s think about loving ourselves, showing care and appreciation for who we are, and believing in our hard work and talents. So no red + pink today on this blog, not because I don’t believe in the power of loving someone else (I do! Very much!) but because I want to promote love for yourself instead. To love yourself first and be your own best friend is also a great way to attract the love of others. So, if you’re single give yourself a glass of champagne and chocolates and toast to your life. Buy yourself a dozen roses. Call your best friend who won’t be romantically matched on Sunday and make a date with them to see a movie. If you just broke up with someone watch the terminator. If you feel anger at someone watch a comedy. Do something to make yourself happy if the 14th depresses you. Doing is believing – trust yourself and do what makes you happiest single or partnered up. Have faith in that!

    …realy pleased to be reading this… : )

I’d honestly prefer that feelings of love are celebrated whenever we feel like it and not ( only ) on a specific day…It’s nice that there is a day to remind us of that, but I have the feeling that it has become too commercial.
I do believe that hearts ,chocolates and flowers can be part of our daily lives…and would rather not force myself to feel a certain way on a certain date. I ‘d rather be more spontaneous and free!

And there is so much truth in learning to love ourselves for who we really are…

    Wishes for a happy weekend!

What a nice and refreshing blog among all the Valentines craziness. Although I’m in a happy relationship I think that all the hipe and all the commercial and social pressure that comes with Valentines Day, deprive it of its true meaning.
Apart from that, loving yourself can be a tough task but absolutely necessary if you want to lead a happy life. If you don’t love yurself, no one else will!

I’m in love with so many things, people, thoughts, ideas, buildings, foods that everyday is a celebration. I’m married, but feel less inspired on the all-coveted Valentine’s Day. Too contrived, too exculsive.

So, on V-Day, let’s go ahead and shower our individual selves with hugs!

    Really important thought, Holly.

Lovely post and you are absolutely right – ironic how when you are in love Valentines Day isn’t important, when you aren’t it’s a terrible, terrible day. Lovely post – thanks

Thank you for this post! I was just broken up with less than a week ago and it shattered my world, but I have since taken this same “love myself” attitude and it has worked wonders! Before the bomb was dropped on me I had even written a post with a similar message….love to all of you in the blogosphere too!

Great post Holly!! and thanks for the change; it’s nice to read a “love yourself” post instead of a “happy valentine’s!” one.

Holly, that’s a heart balm! I’m so glad to see at least one blog hearts-free this day;) I mean, what happening to people, we all remember it’s a valentine, there’s no need in all these sticky pink-red-heart posts every day during a month!
    thank you:)

Very nice post. I find that I have to take care of me first too. My husband will love me no matter what, but he is not the source of my happiness. I am the source of my own happiness! The more I take care of my self, the more he loves me for my strength and drive. Inner peace and pride feeds alot into a person.

We don’t do the valentines thing because it is just a waste of money. I will be busy painting rooms, installing rain barrels and completeing other projects. May not be romantic and it will be dirty, but the satisfaction of a complete project is bliss for me.

Just today I read an article on St. Valentine’s day and it says that it’s very characteristic for the American society to act that way: a card/a flower/a teddy bear = love; 2 dates = sb’s right to make love to you, etc. It says this is because this society is very goal oriented and good at finding immediate solutions. Is that true? In my country, Poland, this holiday is strictly comercial and dates back to the 90′s only so for my generation and older ones there is sth artificial in an attempt to signal you love sb just on that very day. However, younger people seem to enjoy these celebrations.
