Vicente Wolf – Why Blog?

March 23, 2010

I had one of those “Like, wow!” moments during lunch today when the Vicente Wolf requested my friendship on Facebook. I mean, Vicente Wolf? Hello! This man is a style icon, a design guru, a top designer! Here is a glimpse of his work from his portfolio — such sophistication and beauty, and so well-edited. His books are classy and he is soon to release a third, Lifting the Curtain on Design, which sounds like a great title — I’m officially intrigued.

Vicente Wolf - Why Blog?

If you’d like to keep up with his work, you may visit his blog where he reveals great design and style tips. I really enjoyed reading his perspective when it comes to blogging in his post, Why Blog, where he reveals why he bothers to keep a public journal and where some of his readers chime in with their viewpoints too. I always find conversations like these interesting because I think we each have our reasons for writing online but in the end it always comes back to a desire to share what one is passionate about and to attract like-minded individuals for discussion and ideas — and even friendship. It was interesting to read the views of a top designer and author like Vicente though and I think you’ll enjoy his post on this topic too.

P.S. Etsy Take Five Tuesday is taking a day off and will resume next week on Tuesday. I was going to write it today but my friend just called me — she read my blog and saw that I’m looking for a desk and found the perfect one for me at the vintage shop downtown so I have to run down there to see if it’s still available! And then a group of us are going to see Alice in English as the local theater is only showing it in English today — so I have to run! I hope this doesn’t sound irresponsible of me, but living in a foreign country means you must see films in English as they come to your city, it’s a big event for me now! :)

well edited is right. it’s takes true talent to be able to combine white with texture to so easily come up with something brilliant. Love the table!

I’m a huge fan of Vicente’s work as a designer and I’ve become an avid reader of his blog. I love that even though he has reached celebrity status as as designer he is still willing to converse with his fans and fellow designers on a very approachable level.

oh do report on Alice and Wonderland! It’s only playing in English at 11pm here in our town and at this point I’m not dying to see it enough (even in English) to stay up so late. I am a wuss, aren’t I?! ha! Tell me if it’s worth it!

Not irresponsible at all! Alice is totally worth it. The colors are to-die-for. And I thought the girl who played Alice was phenomenal.

I love Vincente Wolf, I didn’t know he has a blog, thanks for the tip!!

I hope the desk works out! That first image of the dining table is close to my vision for my own dining room — which is currently gutted and barricaded from the rest of the house… but when it’s finally finished I really want a rustic farm table with sleek white chairs. My husband can’t quite envision it, so I’m totally showing him this photo when he gets home!

I read quite a few blogs now and I think you’re one of the hardest working people out there. Consistent, interesting posts and lots of them. Yeah! Go and enjoy! Hope your desk works out.

  • Reply kristina March 23, 2010 at 6:57 pm

oh goodness, that wood table is fantastic! Pieces like that are practically impossible to find at affordable prices. I’m going to make a table like that one day.
holly, thanks for having such impeccable taste. you are a great source of inspiration for me as an artist/designer.

Thanks Holly for posting this. I found the “why blog” link really great. I’ve taken the last few months off of blogging; it started as a month off, and then a loss in my life has continued the hiatus. Daily I think about if I want to return, and why should I – and it comes down to the connections I have made. For me it is finding that balance between my ‘computer’ friends and spending time with real live people, one can get something from both.

I enjoy this blog, but really Haus Maus is the most fun for me ~ I have always dreamed of doing what you are doing. Thanks for the post and thanks for letting us live vicariously!

Wolfe’s assistant monitors his facebook account, and friend suggestions turn into friend requests. He has lots and loves connecting in the cyberworld! Afterall, the facebook design world is not that big!! So sorry, it is nothing personal that he requested your friend request! But be free to post something on his wall. He may respond!

    • Reply decor8 March 25, 2010 at 4:35 am

Christine: Oh thank you for clarifying that — then I guess it was his assistant who commented on this post then too. Does his assistant always write his blog, I wonder?

  • Reply Decor Arts Now March 25, 2010 at 8:50 am

Vincente’s blog is the best. Truly informative for designers who would love to know how it is done at the “top.” Lynn

  • Reply jack March 25, 2010 at 1:07 pm

yes, i also heard vincente has a facebook assistant as well as he is so busy. but he does monitor his profile and pops up here and there, as he did here (unless someone was playing a joke on you!) welcome!

Jack – You keep commenting using different names (Jack, Christine, Vanessa and Fannie) but I can see you are the same person. No need to hide, you can show your true identity – I do here every day! :)
