I’m popping in for a moment to say so long until Monday — I’m signing off for the weekend and wishing you well until we meet again! I thought I’d leave you with an image today that I simply love. I saved it in my “inspire me” file on my desktop and I cannot figure out where it came from… but I love it so much! If it is familiar to you, and you know who the photographer is, please comment below so that I may edit this post and link to the photographer’s website. But seriously… is this room not heaven? At least it’s MY heaven, I could live in this space and imagine it as the perfect summer cottage along the coast. So let’s all pretend it’s ours and that we’ll be escaping there this very weekend!
Speaking of cottages, it seems lots of people I meet locally either own or rent cottages in Denmark along the coast since it’s so close by. Does anyone know much about Danish cottage rentals or have any contacts because I really, really, really want to find a place to rent on a regularly basis – once or twice a year – as an escape space. I feel left out with friends going away to their summer cottages, maybe I need to rent a little one too.
Oh and by the way… next week I’ll be posting 4 days Monday-Thursday only because Friday I’m taking a holiday!
Make this weekend a great one!

There are several big companies that rent out summer cottages in Denmark. The cottages are usually privately owned and the owners use a company to do all the work for them. Some of the largest ones are Dansommer , Sologstrand , Dancenter and Novasol .
(I tried to post their URLs, but I got an error message that said I was a bit spammy so I try to post without URLs to see if that helps. To find them add .com or .dk or Google them)
They have cottages all over Denmark, of all sizes, prices and standards.
If you know exactly where you want to rent you can also contact the tourist information office in that town and ask if they know of others too. Danish tourist information offices are always very helpful.
Have a nice holiday in Denmark! It’s one of my favorite places to visit. I have usually gone there on a bike holiday and it’s such a great country for that. If you have a bike you should bring it and explore the area where you are staying that way.

Southern Sweden also has a plethora of cottages, so you may want to consider extending your search to include Sweden. I used to live in Sweden and we’ve stayed in both Sweden and Denmark and we LOVE it. It’s probably our favorite summer destination. We have stayed in B&Bs rather than cottages, but we’ve found all of ours via the internet and we’ve been very pleased. We’ve also looked for cottages and used the internet, but for whatever reason (availability and poor planning, probably), we have ended up in B&Bs instead. I have a friend whose family owns some houses/cottages in Trelleborg, Sweden. If you would like, I can investigate with them a bit further and connect you.

I can recommend Die Hyggelige Dänen, a company that has lots of houses in all sizes and price categories at Vejers Strand.

I’ve stayed with them serveral times and always had a great experience.

I too love the white base with the “pops” of color…reminds me of my home. Very nice selection!

I’ve rented through Novasol before (I’m in England). Faxe Ladeplads on the Baltic coast is nice if you want somewhere quiet but easily accessible to both Copenhagen and the southern islands. Marielyst in Falster and Gillelejeope, north of Copenhagen, are supposed to very popular if you want sun’n'surf.

Hi Holly,
I’m such a fan of that room too! I think it’s from photographer Trine Thorsen – I first saw it on the blog Purple Area (http://purplearea.blogspot.com/2009/06/skandinaviskt-vitt-med-trine-thorsen.html). Have a happy weekend, and best of luck finding a cozy summer cottage!

Lovely picture. For renting a summercottage in Denmark you can try this : http://www.dancenter.dk/
or write “sommerhus danmark” in google (Danish for summer cottage Denmark). I would recommend the westcoast, and the island “Fejø”. Have a great stay there:-)

Oh i’m going this vacation for the first time to Denmark. My boyfriend wanted to go to Sweden and i only wanted to come with him if he promissed to make a small stop in Denmark lol. So we are going to Kobenhavn and their we take the bridge to Malmo. Anyways, i think i would love to have a cottage in one of the Scandinavian countries. Its so lovely their!
I like this white space – as i always do – and the round table and Eames rocking chair. Its somehow how i want my living room to be although it looks completly different i got the same feeling to it….
