Emerson Made

Hello and welcome to a new week of decor8ing and creative inspiration! :) How are you? I’m still unpacking but I’ve also been working a lot on a project for my students in Morocco since I fly to Marrakesh on Friday so I’m quite busy buzzing around trying to get everything finished in time for my flight! When I’m back from Morocco I’ll share with you what I made for them (with photos!) and I’ll also share lots of trip highlights too.

Emerson Made

What do these flowers have to do with Morocco? Well, I was looking for flowers to put in my hair for my upcoming trip because I have this idea to wear my long hair up since it’s warm in Marrakesh and I’d love to clip a big fabric flower on the side behind my ear… And I came across the beautiful Emerson Made site again and thought, “Oh yes, perfect.” See like this…

Of course, flowers aren’t only for clipping in your hair! Gently resting on a set table is rather elegant too, don’t you think? In fact, wouldn’t it be fun to host a ladies lunch with the flowers posing as a centerpiece but when the meal is served everyone is invited to choose one to clip into their hair for a group photo? And then to keep as a memory of this fun time together? I just love personal, sweet gestures like this. I want to be invited to a party hosted by someone so thoughtful (and stylish!) don’t you!?

Perhaps I will try to make a flower pin for my hair (if there is time) before I leave or maybe I’ll just buy something in a nearby shop since I don’t have time to order from Emerson Made, but if you do then Emerson Made is your site for flowers to embellish your hair, shirt, table… These are all so lovely, aren’t they?

Adore Home Online Mag

Yes, there is yet another e-magazine to drool over, this time it is published by an Australian designer and it is called Adore. Their first issue just launched (don’t let the Spring bit on the cover throw you off, for in Australia it is Spring) and it is a home and lifestyle magazine founded and created by interior designer Loni Parker. Would you like a peek?

I enjoyed seeing the home of fellow design blogger, Caitlin Wilson, who lives in Dubai and works there as an interior designer. Her home is so alive with personality and style and her baby is adorable. I love seeing some lifestyle shots in books and magazines along with the interior photos, don’t you? It makes it all so real to me…

Colorful Home – Could You Live Here?

Wow! Did you check out this, “neglected Federal-style schoolhouse in the Catskills transformed into a glamorous and chic home”, today on the Country Living website? Oh my goodness this is a color and pattern explosion — and it totally works! I love all of the paint, wallpaper, collections and patterns. Yowser!

Country Living

It’s so funny how some people have the natural ability to pull this off so simply yet others struggle with using so many bold patterns and colorways in a home. Why do you think this is? I think the harder it is to decorate using a certain scheme then one is either over-thinking things or trying to decorate with colors and styles that they don’t really like or connect with. For me, if something doesn’t come natural for me to do in my own home, if I have to really force myself to use a color or pattern, then I skip it and go with what feels good for me. Sometimes I’ll throw in something that doesn’t come so naturally just to challenge myself to make sure my views are narrowing too much… but still — I know what I like and so I try to use only things that I really click with in my home.

Perhaps this is why I never liked to incorporate tons of pattern and color in my home, I just can’t bare the strength of it all because my inner world is so colorful and alive that I always felt like all of these layers surrounding me at home would compete with me. I love the home shown above but for this reason, I could never live there though I’d love to find a bed and breakfast like this and spend a long weekend. :)

I was just thinking… and I’ve said this in the past, but red in the home stresses me out unless it is used as a small accent combined with a calm, soft blue or pink. Do you have a “trigger” color that stresses you out in the home? Could you live in this space above?

Matthew Mead’s New Magazine

Stylist, photographer, writer, art director — I could go on and on — the talented Matthew Mead wrote to me recently to share some of the pages of his new magazine, Holiday, and I thought I’d show you a glimpse or two to inspire you today. I’m so proud to see Matthew doing a magazine!

Holiday with Matthew Mead

This self-published magazine was born of Matthew’s desire to connect directly with readers and to produce, direct, style and photograph every aspect of his work and create something beautiful to hopefully fill the void on newsstands today. He even writes the recipes! I don’t know about you, but I could use some tea and cookies right about now…

As you can see, his premiere issue includes a variety of decorating styles, recipes, entertaining and more and I appreciate that he is experimenting with less traditional color palettes — it’s a refreshing change and feels very fresh. His goal is to expand with a quarterly magazine filled with inspiring seasonal lifestyle and decorating ideas — the launch of HOLIDAY will hopefully pave the way!

If you’d like a copy of this magazine, you may purchase it through his site (he ships worldwide) and your copy will arriving during the first week of November.

Congrats, Matthew!
