Well here it is!!! I am so pleased to share with you the UK cover of the book that I’ve been working on since the beginning of this year called Decorate! My wonderful co-author Joanna Copestick and I have been working on this title alongside of our fabulous team and the result is a beautiful mix of styles and tastes sharing homes and apartments from both the U.S. and Europe that will no doubt inspire you to Decorate. In addition to the homeowners, we have some amazing contributors that I was able to interview — their decorating advice is shared throughout the book.
Tah-dah!
I was able to meet the homeowners, interview them, style their spaces and work with the sought-after leading interiors photographer, Debi Treloar. We traveled all over to capture the way so many different people live so it’s a very special project to me because working “behind the scenes” on location was a completely new experience for me. I remember styling the first home, feeling a bit fish out of water, but I quickly got the hang of it and as we traveled I felt like I’d been doing it for years. I am so happy that I went for it!
To see the cover (I found out in my hotel room in Istanbul and did the happy dance!) is so exciting! I love that near my name they put “founder of decor8″. This is such an honor! This opportunity fell into my lap so recently, it still feels quite surreal and I’m frankly shocked that we were able to pull together this 302 page hardbound book in less than a year — and I can’t wait until it’s published because it’s my gift to you and I hope you will love it because I know so many have been cheering me on and encouraging a book all along so this one’s for you. :)
In the UK, Decorate will be published in London by Jacqui Small in March just a few days after my birthday (yay!) and in May it will be published in American English with a different jacket by Chronicle Books. I am excited to report that a large German publisher will translate it and publish it in the German market as well in the Fall of 2011 — a dream come true because I have wanted to contribute to the design scene here in Europe for a long time and to have a book in German will mean so much to my large network of German-speaking friends and family.

Love it! Although I wish they’d cropped the picture so you wouldn’t see those cross bars under the table. It’s very distracting to the eye because one is parrallel to the bottom of the book.

congratulations, truely, as i read your blog religiously… but it caught me off guard that you would use such a plain font for the title of your book. The font of your names are more attractive than the tile of your book. In fact, I think I have a book that the cover of the book is exactly the same, but it was from the 1990′s. Maybe it’s the color that turns me off.
I couldn’t finish reading your post, because I feel that you need to know this immediatly. If your book has already gone to press, I’m sorry for telling you this now, and if not… please rethink this. Think about you going to the book store and seeing this book amongst all others of the same genre, would you pick this one one up? Would you think it has new an valuable information? I’m sure you already thought about this… but man, the cover is a turn off – the picture actually looks like it’s from a wrong angle. Maybe I’m use to the ELLE Decor managazine covers but it seems that the flow of the circle in comparison to where the title is. Seems that the title wants to be centered, but is a little off because of the words under it.
Just wanted to give you some constructive criticism.

@ Melissa – Thank you so much for your feedback but I did not design the book nor did I have a say in the typeface used in the book or on the cover. I gave my opinions but in the end, publishing companies go with what they feel is the best direction and they use type that best fits their vision and style and as an author one must step back and let the professionals out there do their job. It is what happens when you author a book and I had to step out of the circle and let the book designer and publisher take the wheel on the design, layout, typeface, etc.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch Holly! I don’t speak German but thought this would compliment the European cover of your book! Which is gorgeous…the shot of the room draws me right in as if I was walking over to rest on the beautiful sofa. What an incredible accomplishment and inspiration to those of us still vying for a career that we love. Kudos to you- revel in every minute of it!

@Jen – When the German cover is ready, which I doubt I’ll see or know about until next Summer, I’ll also post it on my blog. You will be able to order it on Amazon.de and also it will be stocked in bookstores in Austria, Switzerland and Germany. :) :) I plan to do a book signing in Hannover for sure so maybe you can come to it? :)

i´m pretty new to your blog, but it instantly became one of my favorites!!!!!
i´m very excited for your new book! I know you have worked Very hard!!!
But i may say that is pretty sad to see what they did with the cover…i agree with the comments above..its a turn off. i wouldn buy the book by its cover,..and its a shame because I´m sure the inside is terrific!!!!!
Perhaps you feel the same way?
I´ve worked with editorial projects before and i know by experience that sometimes , even in huge ones, they hire people who really dont have “the eye” for beauty..i WISH they would have let YOU edit the cover!!!!! It would have been stunning!! i´m sure!!
Please take this as a constructive feedback, no intend of hurting your feelings..really! I love your blog and It is a true gift to publish a book!!!! I KNOW we can expect it to be WONDERFUL!!!!! as you are!!!

@Christina – I have heard a mixed reaction about the UK cover though there is not much I can do with your feedback since I am not a book designer and was not hired to design the book – only to find/book locations, choose a photographer, style the homes and of course, write. Everything else was ultimately up to the book designer and publisher. I am so honored to have a book packed with great advice to share with my lovely readers. I have to point out that I worked with some very talented and dedicated people on this project, and this book isn’t MY book but also 50% Joanna’s as she is also a co-author, so of course her vision was important and the publisher had to hear her views as well. I think for a first book, I did my part and so I am proud of my contribution to this project and honored to have a book coming out and hope that my readers will buy it and continue to support my work. :)

I bet it’s so fun to see it all coming together! Is this Rita Konig’s home? I remember that sofa from a Domino spread on her place, looks like she changed the upholstery. Interesting choice. Can’t wait to see the inside of the book.
