Nani Iro by Naomi Ito

September 17, 2010

I heard about Japanese textile designer Naomi Ito (she designed the Nani Iro fabric collection) for the first time today from Leslie — she pointed me over to Heather’s blog to learn more about Naomi as well. These are such gorgeous patterns, and I love the watercolor-y deliciousness of them all and had to post them for a little visual inspiration for you today.

You can buy some of her prints, patterns and books at Super Buzzy in case you like what you see… You can also search for Naomi Ito or Nani Iro on Etsy and you’ll find sellers who have her things too.

I wish you a lovely weekend! I am going to a fabric market with my friend tomorrow and then I’ll be reading, writing more of my book, and packing for the big move in two weeks. I also have to work on my kitchen design this weekend — almost forgot about that — oh my! Busy! And what about you, anything that you have planned?

Also, I have quite a lot of shiny new books to read. Here is what came in this week. I bought some of them online, I went on a little book shopping spree and yes, I indulged quite a bit…. First up is Home is where the heart is and also Sensual Home both by Ilse Crawford and I can’t believe I’ve never read them!! Oh and the new issue of Jeanne d’Arc magazine, I bought a second copy of Simply Home by Mark & Sally Bailey because I forgot I already had one (oops!), American Modern by Thomas O’Brien, Farrow & Ball Living with Color by Ros Byam Shaw, Harmonious Home by Judith Wilson, All in the Detail: Over 400 Finishing Touches That Make a House a Home by Caroline Clifton-Mogg, Old House New Home: Stylish Modern Living in a Period Setting by Ros Byam Shaw, Contemporary Country by Emily Chalmers and Pattern by Orla Kiely. Yes I know, that’s a long list and very indulgent of me but it feels good having this great stack before me to enjoy and refer to for ideas and inspiration over the years to come. I love books.

Have a lovely weekend and if you can, spoil yourself a little – okay?

Rue Magazine

September 17, 2010

There are so many great e-magazines out there right now! If you don’t believe me, read my complete e-mag round up and prepare to drool in delight. The next digital mag premiering on computer screens around the world is called Rue and is available for your perusing pleasure…

Rue Magazine

I’d like to thank Rue founders and fellow bloggers Crystal Gentilello and Anna Sage for featuring me in Blogger Side By Side on pages 40/41. I loved the illustrated stick thin and stylish version of me (I wish!) that the amazing Dallas Shaw pulled together, so cute! And it was fun to see illustrated me holding my favorite wallpaper and surrounded by two of my favorite things, perfume and lip gloss. I also liked learning about some of Ronda’s favorites too. You can see it below…

Rue Magazine

And here are some favorite glimpses from this beautiful magazine… I love how many bloggers I spotted in this issue, it was a really nice mix of my favorite people online and how excited I was to read that the fabulous Will Taylor from Bright.Bazaar in London works for Rue now – I love that guy (Will you soooo rock).

There is Joy in the navy/white spots having fun!

I like that you can search by room, it’s great if you’re about to kick off a project in your home because a resource like this one can be very helpful for ideas.

By the way, did you hear the news? While Lonny is still an e-mag for free, you can also order a print version and they are shipping worldwide. More information about that here (each issue is $34 though).

Enjoy!

12 West Elm Faves + Boston Event!

September 16, 2010

A couple of readers asked if I’d point them to some of my favorite things over at West Elm so I’m going to play a game of virtual shopping guide! Fun! In this post I’ve taken 12 of my current favorites from West Elm to share with not only those readers but with the rest of you who may also be looking for a few news things to spruce your roost. Enjoy!

12 West Elm Faves + Boston Event!

1. Diamond tufted headboard, 2. Nailhead upholstered headboard, 3. Blake sofa, 4. Tripod table in white, 5. Martini side table in white or silver and 6. the Wrap dining chairs (love all colors!).

12 West Elm Faves + Boston Event!

7. The Pratt desk in all white (also available in two tone) has to be my current favorite West Elm piece. 8. I also like the Pebble Stripe rug. In fact, the whole room is nice… especially that coffee table. 8. The Sphere lamps are great, too. 10. Could this Chunky tassel throw get any yummier? 11. This simple Cloche is nice to display something that you cherish. 12. And finally, the Organic Shaped dinnerware. Everyone needs at least one white set of dinnerware because white shows off food the best (I am throwing out my blue dinnerware, it makes most food look so unappetizing!) and with white, you can lay the table anyway you’d like — dress it up, go casual, change your colors, experiment with a variety of themes — anything and everything goes with white dinnerware.

12 West Elm Faves + Boston Event!

BOSTON: West Elm has partnered with PATCH NYC and Etsy to invite some of Boston’s most talented artisans and crafters in to our store for a special pop-up hand made art market event on October 14th.  If you can attend, go, go, go! It sounds fun. You can RSVP here. I’ll be there in spirit. xo

DAY Birger et Mikkelsen Home

September 16, 2010

This is such a gorgeous autumn color palette! DAY Birger et Mikkelsen is a Danish label known for their amazing fashion but did you know that they also have a well-curated collection of goods for the home? Their current campaign is called Quirky Autumn and I just love it with the smokey shades of blue, gray…. vintage charm, extremely tactile, a few classic designs from the 60s, some ethnic “raw” pieces made of wood, silhouette art work, embroidery, lots of handmade charm — we all are so drawn to these things because they feel so real and in some ways connect us back to our childhood…

DAY Birger et Mikkelsen Home

This is definitely a look/palette that many designers are gravitating towards right now — Sibella Court, TineK Home, House Doctor, DAY Birger et Mikkelsen, West Elm, Anthropologie, etc. The mix of high and low, old and new is currently popular but I believe that it has real staying power — like denim jeans — in the sense that you can see a living room in these colors, in this style, in 5 years and it would still be just as lovely and cozy and not at all appear dated or, “Sooooo 2010” as I imagine some current trends will look and feel years from now. Like denim, this look is clean, natural, casual and lasting since it is a mix of periods, cultures, and mostly neutral tones which you really can never go wrong with.

What do you think of these colors, textures and combinations?

Inaluxe

September 15, 2010

Inaluxe is Kristina Sostarko and Jason Odd and together they are one heck of a design duo. I’m drawn to their cards and giclee prints in  strong, vibrant colors and I adore their latest card that says…

I love
the way you smell
your smiling eyes
sleeping in with you
your taste in music
your big bushy beard
the way you never laugh (loudly) when I slam into glass storefront doors
the fact that even though I have the scariest morning hair you still think I’m the most beautiful woman in the world.

Cute, isn’t it?
