I also included a massive directory in the back containing years worth of blogging research to point you to the best of the best when it comes to interiors accessories, art, design, furniture, I even composed a must-read list pointing you to some of my favorite blogs.

I live in Philadelphia, PA (USA). I love your blog and I’ve been reading it for at least the past year. I can’t remember how I stumbled across it, but it must have been a link from another blog. Two of my favorite types of posts that you do are the “Etsy Take 5 Tuesdays” and when you focus on color groupings – it always inspires fresh ideas for me. I can’t wait to check out your book!!

    Dear Holly,

I love reading your blog every day. I discovered your Decor8 a couple of years ago and from that day on I’ve been reading it daily.

About the question: What would you love to see/read more about on decor8 in the future?

It’s a hard question because I love Decor8 the way it is. But maybe it would be great to see/read more about interior design in Europe. I love the inspiring pictures you’ve posted and one of them even inspired me to choose the same colours in my bedroom.
I’m a Dutch student and I’m always busy decorating, trying things with colours and I can honestly say your blog is a great way to think out of the box and dare to try!

I really like what you’ve done so far so keep up the good work and I’d love to see and read more of your work in the future!

    Yours sincerely,

Ooh, very exciting… the book looks amazing. Thank you for the give-away competition :)

I think I would love to see more of the same that you already cover, but especially home-wares and textiles by individual independent design companies doing lots of hand-made loveliness… mostly because that’s the field we’re in (!) – but really because I just love that kind of stuff and could spend every penny I earn on yummy things for the home! ;) Always looking for new finds :)

Congrats again on the book, and the launch – looked FAB! xo

Wow! It would be so great to win a copy!!

I love the content of decor8, so it’s hard to say what I’d like to see more of, but I guess I would say perhaps more posts about concrete ways to infuse a space with one’s own personal style, passion, etc., that you are so great at promoting, in a budget friendly way. I love all of your examples of people incorporating items of personal meaning, and I work very hard to do that myself as well as help clients to do so. But…I know I have been very inspired by your ideas of ways to use/transform/modify easily found items (like budget friendly items from big box stores) to something more personal. I love hearing creative ideas of ways to “think outside the box” in terms of using items that most people could easily find and afford. While I love incorporating vintage and flea market finds, geographic location (some areas of the country/world just don’t have many treasures buried in the junk ;)!) and time constraints can make that more difficult. Of course, there is always wonderful etsy and ebay, but the more ideas, the better, I think!

    Hello,

I so would love to have a copy of this book!

In the future, I’d like to see more tips for cheap decoration. Not really DIY because I’m not really good at it, but things to learn how to “light” a small room, where to find beautiful things not expensive, how to “arrange” a small room to make it confy, or which small and easy details could do the difference. Small tips like that, easy to apply for those who are not really good at DIY but who are dying to give some “decorative touches” to their home.

(sorry for my english, I’m French – well, Belgian)

We were in Bettmeralp, Switzerland after Christmas and I just loved how everything in the bathroom was OFF THE FLOOR! Toilet, cabinets, etc. Very cool. It’s these little Euro details I’d love to see.

    Thanks so much. Take care.

    This is my answer:

In the future, I would love to see more green/eco/sustainability design ideas and designers both in the US and abroad. For example, what are designers doing to help minimize waste and carbon footprint? What designers are creating creative and chic items using recycled materials?

Well Holly, you are an inspiration. You show your authentic self and you own up to those things you believe in. I can’t imagine wanting more than you already give…. so I had to think about it for awhile.
I love Leslie’s Color Stories… those are a delight, more of those would be nice. I like it when you share new techy stuff especially if it is geared toward our creative souls, and lastly, videos. It is fun to see videos, maybe see more of your life on video.

Keep on keepin’ on with what you’ve been doing, but the universal aesthetic appeal of STRIPES, NUMERALS, LETTERS and “refreshed” items should be featured always. Decorating beauty that appeals to and can be shared by both men and women at the same time is what decor8 excels in and seems to be what the book emphasizes.

The preview pics are tantalizing. Congrats.

I have been a faithful follower of your 2 blogs for years – and they have helped me immensely while setting up homes in New Zealand, USA, South Korea and now Germany (not at the same time)! I would love to see on Decor8 more real homes, with your tips on how to achieve the ‘looks’ for myself. I will be in London next week, and following your recommendations on your blog I am planning on spending a day in Liberty, Selfridges and Anthropologie – so if I don’t win here I will definitely pick up a copy there.

Decor ideas including creative, affordable storage solutions for the music room, a real clutter hot spot. There are many spouses of musicians out there; never a dull moment, but there is a lot of STUFF… multiple guitars, electric bass, upright bass, recording equip, mike stands, cables, drums, hardware, cases… not to mention hundreds of CDs, DVDs, LPs, even cassette tapes, etc..

As a graphic designer I know it has potential to be the coolest house in the room. I just need a little inspiration.

I’d love to get a copy of your book, thanks!

I would like to see more ideas/photos/real-life homes that show one how to mix an assortment of styles ~ I love all kinds of styles and collect what I love, and want to decorate with what I love!! When I set about doing this (as I am right now in my new cute little apartment), I find it looking granny-ish and not pulled together. It looks like a hodge podge of things that have no place.

    Thank you!!

I loved Kylie Johnson’s poetry and am definitely interested in seeing more related information. I’d also love to see more color ideas and color palettes. I am preparing to move and feel like I’m really getting to decorate a house for the first time. The task is exciting but overwhelming, and I have been working on finding color schemes that suit both my husband’s and my tastes.

It also needs to be easy to tidy up for child and, more often than not, mummy. I think anything for Kids is interresting.
I also love reading about special little accessories or knick-knacks that have been found and are just irresitable. Preferably in a price range that is accessable. Wow… so many comments. Congratulations. It’s amazing to get a better idea of who your readers are. Ok… on to the question. I run a few vacation rentals in Buenos Aires. What’s important to me in choosing with whom I work is first the location of the apartment and second the design. Sometimes there are great spaces that just need a few touches to really make them pop. That’s what I’d like to see covered because whether it’s for the places I’m renting out or for my own living situation (which tends to be 2 years here and 2 years there) inexpensive pops can’t be beat. In essence, imagine you have to move into a drab place and make it a home without removing anything. Badumdum!

Holly, I’ve been following you on Twitter and here on your book adventure. So happy it went so wonderfully for you. Ever since the BYW class and then my husband bought me the book. Guess what I do every night before sleep. I look at Decorate! I can’t walk very well right now. So…I hobble up the stairs and my husband says…do you want “the book?” The class and the book have been such a bright beautiful light in my life all these weeks. I can’t even begin to tell you what changes I am making in my life and with my blogging. Thanks so much! You deserve all the wonderful things to come your way…you’ve earned it!

  • Reply Jody April 18, 2011 at 11:21 pm

I’m inspired already! I would love to see ideas about family decorating – or ideas that anyone can do – simple flower arranging, or ‘how to’s’ for painting canvases and creating art for home. As much as I love DIY, I’m finding it increasingly frustrating when I cant find an item that is similar to the DIY inspiration picture… gets me every time (we have slim pickin’s here in Calgary, AB). I love your site – thank you!

  • Reply Trish April 18, 2011 at 11:25 pm

Oh Holly, you cover so much already…do you have room for more??? :)

I guess as I sit and ponder on this….I would love to see more coverage on travel to “special” places/shows/shops/gardens etc…. you know, kind of like a board on what to do this weekend for folks who love Decorate Style. I have no idea on how to accomplish this other than start a Flickr site for people to submit photos of such places/events with the information.

I also think it’s so nice to see folks who are small “mom and pop” businesses who are trying to get their feet off the ground.

Ways to purchase items to benefit worthy causes?

I love your blog, and your concern for all of us readers….I ‘m not sure how you will add to or improve….it’s so great already! :)

Thanks for the opportunity to try and win a copy…I should be so lucky! :)

    Hi Holly,

Fantastic book! I’ve been following your adventures now since almost the begining belive it or not! I stumbled across your site way back in the early days and have religously check in to be inspired! I’m from Queensland in Australia and our homes are very diiferent to those that I see on your site. I’d love to see some different decorating styles, other than the clean white scandinavian style, from time to time! I really do love it, but I’d really love to see other styles featured, I really enjoyed your Marrakesh trip for example.
    All the best to you.

What about a feature where you present new products from your selected shops? I don’t think I’ve seen this feature on your blog, but I can’t say for sure.

    Hi Holly

First of all, well done on your new book – I know there has been a lot of work to get to where you are – sit back and enjoy it for a good long while. :-) On Decor8 I would like to see a greater emphasis placed on the stories behind the work – learning more about the designer and their passions. I think it would be great to hear how people got to where they are, what inspires them and any advice they may offer to those beginning on the design path. It could be a weekly, fortnightly feature with interviews about designers that perhaps have inspired you or do you ask people to write in with their own suggestions and reasons why a particular person has inspired them. So Decor8 encourages as well as inspires…! Another suggestion, would be a day in the life of..? Sometimes the design life can be lonely especially when work is beginning and you have very few ‘contacts’ or work is slow (I think this is reasoning blogging exists in the first place – connecting with people who are on a similar wave length). It would be good to document what happens on a normal day for a designer, where to do they find their inspiration, what happens when they get a mental block etc? You could have varying designers – designers who run an etsy shop from their home…all the way to designers who work for big publishers. It could be that varied and interesting!

What ever is in decor8 in the future I know I will be tuning in indeed. I read decor8 on a daily basis and it cheers me up. I want to end and say thank you for all the inspiring work that is here already. It is great to see you do so well and is an inspiration to us all. I look forward to reading more blogs already…:-)

I love everything you write on your blog, and find your personal stories about life in general and the way you deal with new opportunities particularly inspiring, since you have such a great vision of things, so humble and sensible, but also so brave at the same time. They always give me strength not to fear the future and believe in my dreams!

I would love to see a decorating challenge tackled on a regular basis, maybe once a week. A before and after of a corner of a room, tabletop, art wall, etc. that needs an imaginative designer’s eye. It could be you as the designer, Holly, or maybe a guest’s ideas to complete the re-do. I would enjoy learning how you go about finding the perfect object to accent a space. What shops, thrift stores or websites were you able to use to do your magic. Make it simple and economical, we’ll be sold! Everyone likes to feel empowered enough to try a small-scale change themselves. You could show us how each week.

One of the things people tend to always compliment me on is the ability to find thrift store, yard sale, cheap finds, or things just lying around the house that you’d never think to turn into something else into gorgeous decorative pieces in my home. I find that constantly seeing and reading up on ways that others get creative keeps my mind freshly able to come up with ideas of my own and keep the possibilities endless when it comes to my own interior design ideas. I would love to see some diy’s and posts on how to make everyday unexpected things into gorgeous pieces in a home. In general just more of a way for the everyday person who may not even have a clue about interior design or have the resources to go out and buy a whole new lot of things for the inside of their home a way to make it a little more beautiful either through refurbishing or using things they already have on hand. Walking people through it will help those who want to learn to be more creative learn the process and direction of those who already are. Summarized: Shabby-Chic, DIY, and Creative Process. A bit of inspiration is always good to get the creative juices flowing! ;)

Thanks for all the great ideas already!!!

I absolutely adore decor8. Thank you for all of your hard work and scavenging to find the most beautiful and inspiring imagery and artists to share. I know you have your etsy finds that you highlight, as well as designers, photographers, and decorators, which is always a treat. I think, with the whole DIY crafter movement really making a comeback, it would be cool to hear more about people who are hand making their craft, and hearing their stories about how the are breaking into or have broken into the retail market. You showcase so many lovely things, it would be cool to learn how these creative people stumbled their way into the world of commerce. just an idea. Thanks a million!

A bit of inspiration is always good to get the creative juices flowing! ;)

Thanks for all the ideas already!!

it’d be wonderful to win a copy of your book :) i’m always inspired by the beautiful photos and creative ideas you post on your blog.

i’d love to read about asian influences, as i find that north america, europe, and other western countries have a very different decorating style from asia – east asia, southeast asia. it’d be interesting to see a feature on different types of style, how they contrast and blend.

Oh I would so to love to win a signed copy of your book.

Something I would enjoy seeing on you blog is posts about being more organised….

I imagine many of your readers are collectors and some may even be hoarders (I include myself in this group!) and at times I really struggle to keep on top of all the beautiful things I pick up along my travels. I would love to see examples of how many other bloggers, crafters, and collectors find ways to organise their homes.

It has been lovely to see all your hard work on both the blog and the book being given the credit it deserves!

What I would love to see more of on Decor8 are articles and posts about the adventures and design journeys of other decorating and design bloggers – written much along the lines of your recent heart rendering article of your own journey. Told like a sort of ‘journey journal’, with images of all the stops and start destinations along the way. Particularly taking into account the gifted handcraft artists of today. I am absolutely hungry for those type of posts.
Good luck in going forward for the whole team involved in your book and your blog. Finding your blog was to me like finding a big nugget of gold.

I have loved your blog for years…I feel you are a kindred spirit as I’m sure many others do. My favorite thing about your site is your honesty and inspiration that shines through in your own words and experiences that you share. I know how much you inspire me to turn even the simplest of my dreams into a reality. I would love to see a before/after posting of your readers accomplishments that were inspired by you and your blog. I think it would be a great way to connect and continue the inspiration on.
