HAPPYsthlm

I heard from the girls at HAPPYsthlm (sthlm is short for Stockholm) earlier this week and didn’t want to wait another moment before spotlighting them here on decor8. HAPPYsthlm was founded in a courtyard studio in Stockholm in ’07 by product designer Katarina Andersson, silversmith Caroline Lindholm and textile designer Kajsa Aronsson. Together they create jewelery and accessories for the home like pillow covers, cast iron baking forms, hand blown glassware, stoneware, cast iron trivets in leaf patterns and much more.

So many sweet patterns and beautifully crafted wares, I hope that you will visit their website and check them out! Also make sure to visit the online portfolio of their photographer Karin Björkquist, too.

Artist Christel Maria Nolle

Born and raised in Germany, painter and sculptor Christel Maria Nolle relocated to Denmark in the 70′s where she has lived and worked as an artist ever since. Her work is seriously inspiring today with her gorgeous portfolio of abstract and mixed media work on canvas and paper — she is seriously making me want to paint! I love her lines and shapes and how she uses color to captivate, arouse, distract, and pull in the viewer. Her work makes a very clear statement: Christel is a free spirit who has no problem with expressing her emotion through art. I love how she translates her many travels into her work as well.

“To me, the finished painting is like a woven rug – a pictorial narrative comprising many details”, says Christel. I loved reading about her process and inspirations here and found it both informative and inspiring.

Her work is not only bold but versatile — I can see it in a beautiful country home like the one that BY+FRYD lives in (here) or I can imagine it in a more traditional home like something you’d find in London with a chesterfield sofa in posh digs. I can easily see it working well in a home with a slouchy black leather sofa, white walls with high ceilings and wooden floors like a flat you’d see in Stockholm or Berlin. The key with choosing art, at least for me, is to fall in love with a piece and don’t select fine art based on your decor but based on what speaks to you and what taps into your emotional side like no other piece you’ve seen in a long, long time. If your heart guides you, it will most likely look great in your space and if it doesn’t then perhaps your space doesn’t reflect your true self and lifestyle and so you need to make a few small changes in your decor so that it reflects who you are.

Do you purchase fine art? If so, where – galleries, the artist, exhibitions, auctions? If you’ve purchased fine art before, why did you make the investment, can you go into detail? I’d love to know and I’m sure other readers would enjoy your comment too.

Tine K Home: Spring/Summer 2011

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of the Tine K Home catalog for Spring/Summer 2011 and so I’m thrilled to say it has arrived and you can view it online right now! Founder and creative director, Tine Kjeldsen, is an interiors celebrity in Denmark — everyone knows and loves her brand and for good reason, her talent is obvious but she is also very charming and generous. I was able to hang out with her last year when we shot her home for my upcoming book and so I feel like I really know the lady behind the brand and she is a lovely woman inside and out who has a very strong and clear opinion about what she likes and dislikes which I respect because I’m the same way! I loved styling her home and touching all of her beautiful things, it was such an honor to spend the day in the Danish countryside. Another thing I enjoyed was the feast that she prepared for us on her patio, it was warm and sunny and the break between shooting was a welcome one. Here’s a glimpse into our patio lunch… Such a happy memory!

Let’s look at her inspiring photographs from the collection, shall we? You can see a glimpse below but I encourage you to look at her entire catalog right here. She will soon have some of her line in Selfridges in London so if you’re living in the UK you can check it out live and in person. Lots of ethnic influence, a muted palette, cool, clean lines, casual, sophisticated… hallmarks of the Tine K brand. Her new patio furniture caught my eye in natural wood tones…
