I Heart Kerry Layton

December 10, 2012

One of my dear students, Geraldine Tan, visited this past weekend from London and gave me the most beautiful assortment of presents wrapped beautifully in Liberty paper. There was one very special gift that I instantly fell in love with – a print by English artist Kerry Layton who lives in North London. Geraldine picked it up for me while attending a recent exhibition by Kerry. For now it will sit on my gray cabinet in my work room to give me wonderful thoughts of Geraldine each time I pass by…

Later, I hope to have it framed because a print so lovely deserves a special spot on my wall. Thank you Geraldine for such a thoughtful and spot-on present!

By the way, Kerry has a beautiful Etsy shop called Seventy Tree in case you’d like to take a peek…

Blog Tip: Tout 15 Second Videos

December 10, 2012

Happy Monday everyone! I’ve decided that once weekly in 2013, I’ll write a post called Blog Tip with one great tip weekly to inspire all of you lovely blogger friends out there! I’m not going to tell you which day though because often a tip lands in my lap and it’s so good that I don’t want to wait until a set weekday to share it. BUT you can expect my Blog Tip column to run once weekly going forward starting with today. But first…. Good morning everyone! How are you?

Blog Tip: Tout 15 Second Videos

I had an exciting weekend with 16 Blogging Your Way Studio students who came to my home to spend the weekend with fellow teacher, Steffi Luxat and I – and needless to say… I’m so pumped up about blogging! It’s amazing how we “pro” bloggers need the budding pro bloggers to fuel us as much as they rely on us to teach them new tricks and fresh ideas about blogging. The relationship is just one big giving circle and I really love that about teaching. I cannot believe that next year will be the fourth year that I’ve been teaching workshops on blogging and creativity and each time I wrap one up I can’t wait to get started on the next online class or in-person event. I’m already gearing up for our March Blogging Your Way e-class AND thinking to do another workshop here at home in the Spring before I go on my book tour. This is truly what I was meant to do and the more I do it, the more I realize I’m right where I need to be.

Okay now for my super cool blog tip. There’s this cool new website that I found today called Tout. It’s really going to take off, I can feel it, and I’ve just uploaded two videos to show you how it works. Tout gives you 15 seconds of video run time to film pieces of your life and share them online. I think this is in incredible way to reach your readers if you are a blogger. You simply download the app, shoot a 15 second video and it uploads in about 60 seconds or less, then you save it to your Tout account. I’ve enabled my account to push my videos to my Facebook and Twitter accounts upon publishing, so I can easily connect with everyone online simply and quickly. I’m sure this could be a bit addictive for some, but I’m going to try to share only valuable and inspirational content using Tout because there is already so much rubbish floating around out there and I don’t want to contribute to more “noise”.

I think if we use Tout with that intention, it could be a really fab way to connect with your friends, family and blog readers. I’m already thinking about some creative ways to begin using it, what do you think, do you like the idea of sharing 15 second videos and if so, how do you imagine using it or what would you show?

Loads of love to you all today – I’ll be back later on to share some views from our workshop this weekend, I just need to sort through my photos!

Inspiration from Bloomingville

December 5, 2012

I recently ordered some lovely items from my new favorite Hamburg-based online shop Rosa Cosa and fell in love the moment my package arrived. It was a good day. Why? Because some things from Bloomingville that I ordered were tucked away so nicely inside and were far better than expected. I love that surprise… When something exceeds your expectations, don’t you?

Inspiration from Bloomingville

I then started flipping through the pages of my Bloomingville catalog and thought to share some of my favorite views with you since you  may not have heard of this brand before in your part of the world. They are based in Denmark and have such a broad range of interiors objects from furniture to wonderful gift wrap and great neon baker’s twine (yes really) that it’s hard to pick just ONE item… And everything in their collection is so cohesive and works together so well. In Germany this brand is a huge hit – Germans seem to love Bloomingville (and everything interiors/fashion related from Denmark which I have no problem with because so do I!) and I’m a fan too. Here is some inspiration for you this week…

Thoughts On Feeling Shiny Again

December 1, 2012

I’ll confess, some days I just want to be Kelly Wearstler. Or anyone really rich, famous, super stylish and gorgeous. Sometimes it’s Ms. Paltrow. Other days it’s Rachel Bilson. Today was one of those Kelly days. I woke up and felt a bit like the end of the year cannot come soon enough because good goodness I need a fresh slate, some new projects and a boatload of amazingness for 2013.

Thoughts On Feeling Shiny Again

But then I realized that I don’t need to be Kelly or anyone else, because I’m pretty awesome in my own skin and you know what, on the surface everyone appears just dandy but inside we’re all a big ball of anxiety and insecurity from time-to-time so it’s okay to wallow a bit. We are so much alike despite how our wrapping paper may vary. After a few minutes of poor, poor me I decided that instead of feeling sorry for myself, I’d take it to the trees. I laced up my shiny new Kurt Geiger metallic gold sneakers (oh yeahhhh) and headed to the forest for a really long walk in the cold brisk air. The more I walked, the more I stepped away from how I felt and stepped into how I should feel. I left a lot in that forest today, and when I emerged I felt as shiny and new as my sneaks. That’s what exercise, fresh air, dogs, cyclists, birds, trees shooting off into the clear blue sky and fallen twigs that crunch with every step can do for you.

It’s okay to feel bad sometimes. Life can deal a seriously good deck of cards and a few minutes later, your hand can change. I think the key is to move your body. Do something good for yourself. Pamper yourself when you feel like your own enemy. Put on shiny shoes and walk – and don’t stop walking until you are YOU again.

I wish you a wonderful weekend and loads of happy.

Furniture Makeovers

December 1, 2012

I saw this on Pinterest and went a little bonkers and traced it back to Barb Blair from Knack Studios. Oh my goodness Barb, this is some kind of incredible. Then I saw it on Poppytalk and learned that it’s a collaboration between Knack and her friends Annie Koelle and Eric Benjamin. My goodness gracious these are cool.

Psst: Barb just wrote a gorgeous book that I wrote the foreword for, it’s called Furniture Makeovers, and it will release next May but you can pre-order it here. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. That is going to sell off the shelves for sure.
