Baby Boy’s Room – Progress Report

December 5, 2013

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a good week. I’m sorry I’ve been absent but I fell down a flight of stairs on Monday and was hospitalized since I’m 32 weeks pregnant and my fall was quite severe. I landed on my back and didn’t break anything, but my fear was my baby boy and so I instantly went to the labor ward at the hospital and was admitted immediately. I am home now, and still awaiting results from a final test, but it seems as though my little boy is okay and that nothing major has happened. They told me that he is old enough now to where they could still save him and perform an emergency c-section, so I instantly felt better the moment I was in the safety of the labor ward – I knew I was in good hands. I had to under go constant monitoring and testing for a few days and they wanted to hold me until the end of this week but then they gave me the option to go home since I live 10 minutes away and told me to take it easy and to keep in close touch with my doctor in the labor ward until my final blood work exam comes back. Once I’m “all clear” I can go back to business as usual. In the meantime, I’m resting and staying hopeful and feel confident that everything is going to be just fine. Next time I’m in the labor ward, which will be next month, I will be giving birth to my lovely little boy so I’m definitely excited and thinking ahead to that wonderful moment to share with my husband.

Baby Boy's Room - Progress Report

I thought I’d update you on our home renovations. They are coming along very nicely! The “kite” wallpaper (that I purchased from Ferm Living) is up in the baby’s room along with the paint – as soon as the trim work is finished and the flooring is laid, which will be next week, I will take some photos and show you how it’s coming along. I’ve been posting bit-by-bit updates on Instagram (@decor8) if you are interested in following me over there – please do.  The wall color is a pale mint called Cabbage White from Farrow & Ball. The 3 walls are in Cabbage White and the wall around the window is decked out in the cute kite wallpaper. The ceiling and all trim work is in pure white. There is no trim along the top of the window so I will mount a roman blind from the actual wall to conceal that.

Baby Boy's Room - Progress Report

So far, I love it. It was exactly what I was hoping for. And the pattern on the wallpaper is something that will grow with him. And once he’s older, we can simply paint the wall or replace the pattern with something else more grown up. So much easier and more affordable than if I had wallpapered the entire room. Plus, the pattern isn’t something I would have wanted on all four walls, it would have made me dizzy – so the splash on the wall around the window is just perfect – not too much but still graphic and eye-catching.

I can’t wait to show you some more photos next week after the flooring is in and when I can get into the property with my Canon vs. my iPhone! Also, the furniture for the room should arrive by December 25th, so I’ll be able to share those pieces as we place them in the space too.

See you soon with more posts and pics and plenty of decorating updates!

I was in your BYW class and had to smile when I heard the craftspeople make noise in the background – but now I see it was all worth it! It looks, like the room will be such a cuddly place! I totally agree, that one wall with wallpaper is just the right amount and it all seems so well-balanced… Have a perfect & blessed holiday season and thank you so much for your more than inspiring ecourse! Dearest Holly,

I am so sorry to hear that! But I am so thankful that you are ok and that baby boy is all right. When I was 7 months pregnant with my son, Nate, I slipped on ice and fell flat on my belly. I had to be still for three days straight – but all is well. He is a healthy and happy 10 year old boy. I, however, am still clumsy :)

I also fell in my pregnancy, (about 6 mo) and all I could think about was my unborn child, though blood and dirt (I had been running on a trail) and a swollen knee and arms faced me. They monitored her and she is now a healthy 11 yr old girl. I wish you the best and hope you take care of yourself and rest. A baby can sleep anywhere in the beginning. Don’t worry too much about finishing the room and get some rest.

You’re so right about the wallpaper. I never thought about wallpapering just one wall of a room. This is such a great tip to me because too much wallpaper makes me dizzy, too, but I also like wallpaper.
Thus is something I’ll definitely incorporate into my own house when we decorate. Thanks.

Dear Holly. Your apartment is going to be fab! I am already so curious how it is going to look when everything is finished. And your little baby boy will have a whimsical room to discover. I am currently expecting my first child, too. Unfortunately, we do not have an extra room and moving in Munich is not so easy (since I am a bit picky about new apartments). Therefore, we are creating a baby corner in our very spacious bedroom. I am still searching for a rug that adds some cosy touch to the corner for the little one. I am in love with the flokati that you ordered from ebay. The price is amazing! I was just wondering how the color looks like in real. Our colors in the baby corner are white, light grey, some pale blue and a touch of neon yellow. I am a little bit afraid that the flokati is not really white but rather light beige due to the nature of the wool. Can you please tell me your opinion? I would be very happy! Wish you a peaceful christmas time.

    • Reply decor8 December 16, 2013 at 2:05 pm

@Katharina – The rug is a very natural white – not bright white (that would look fake) but a natural white so it makes the room look cozy and not like a hospital. I know what you mean about beige rugs, my Moroccan rug is a bit more beige and not as white as I had hoped but I still love it. But the flokati is gorgeous. I would suggest it to everyone. It was also very affordable and arrived the day after I paid for it!

Thanks Holly for your reply. I completely understand what you mean. So I guess the rug will be mine in January and move into the nursery corner.
