Museums never fail to inspire. A relaxing Sunday at the new ICA was a time well spent today. I loved the lobby wall mural, “The Divine Gas”, by Japanese artist, Chiho Aoshima. (click on images for a larger view.) This space is actually called the Sandra and Gerald Fineberg Art Wall, and is dedicated to original work commissioned from a new artist each year. (This mural will be replaced 10/07.) Learn more about the artist and The Divine Gas here.
The ICA is one of the first designed by NYC architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro in the United States. They are currently working on the redevelopment of Lincoln Center in NYC, including a 45,000 square ft expansion of the Juilliard School and a complete renovation of the Alice Tully Hall.

I love the bones of this space, and relish the thought of actually having a bedroom with such a dramatic ‘headboard’ such as the one shown here. I do think though that this arch isn’t being used in the best manner – there’s so much more that could be done to really enhance it. Add wallpaper or stencils or decals perhaps, or install impressive lighting, or simply add paint. What would you do to give this arch the respect and attention that it deserves? Or do you prefer it ‘as is’?

It’s time to pause for the rest of the month, so I’m stepping away from my desk and heading off on a mini break. This will be my first blog vacation of the year, so although I’ll miss you all, I’m excited to spend time with friends and family and pull the plug on my laptop. I’m sure you can relate!
So, I bid you adieu for now… Enjoy special times with all the special people in your life — I’ll see you on January 2, 2007! – Holly
