Mood Board Contest: Absolute Freedom by Jana Valachovicova

This entry doesn’t require words from me. It speaks volumes on its own. I allowed it in the competition because of the feeling it evokes and the thought that went into creating it. I can also envision using some of the materials as furniture, such as the leather coat, so it’s works for me. See for yourself. It’s one of my favorites.

Name: Jana Valachovicova
Occupation: Manager (design is my hobby, but in the future it might become more.)
Your blog/website: www.jevedesign.cz (still under construction)
State/Country: Czech Republic
Theme: Everything is allowed, nothing is mandatory
Inspiration: The warmth and the scent of Tuscany, combined with the green freshness and mildness of Ireland. I love summer mornings when the grass is wet with dew and warm summer evenings filled with the sound of cicadas. I love the safe, relaxed feeling of comfortable home (perhaps even in the meaning of oasis or sanctuary), where you are free to do anything… but you do not have to do anything.
Notes: Here is the translation of all the Czech terms:
- Volnost = liberty (in this context, liberty / freedom to do anything you want).
- Oaza = oasis (a place of love, a place of peace, a place to rest, place to have fun, place where one is safe).
- ctvero rocnich obdobi = the four seasons of the year.
- muzete vsechno & nemusite nic = everything is allowed, nothing is mandatory.

Thank you for entering the decor8/Amy Butler mood board contest, Jana! I’ll post as many entries as I can fit in today, and then that’s it, the contest will wrap up and tomorrow we’ll all get to vote for our new winners. Yeah!

Mood Board Contest: Ladies Only Tea Room by Jeska Pettitt

Here’s one for the romantics out there. Go ahead, indulge yourself. You know you dream of having at least one pink room in your home to take afternoon tea. :)

Occupation: Retail manager
Blog: http://recordtheday.blogspot.com
Location: United Kingdom
Theme: Ladies only entertaining room, where you can read, socialize with friends, eat cake, drink tea, write or just have some well earned time alone.
Inspiration: An apple and almond tart and its description – slivers of cherry red apple look like delicate petals have floated down onto sweet, crisp pastry. Everywhere you turn it seems that there are flowers. Also a little of the indulgent side of Marie Antoinette.

Mood Board Contest: Vintage Glam by Allison Hefner

Meet Allison, an aspiring interior designer that is inspired by a Betsey Johnson clutch. She calls her room, Vintage Glam, and we all know a mood board contest isn’t complete without at least one glam-tastic design in the mix. ;) Thank you for bringin’ it, Allison. I’d love to see this as a room.

Name: Allison Hefner
Occupation: Freelancer/aspiring interior designer
State/Country: Colorado/USA
Theme: Vintage Glam
Inspiration: A fabulous retro-inspired clutch from Betsey Johnson. I wanted to capture the essence of glamour and elegance that defined the era of the ‘Rat Pack’ but with a more edgier influence. By coating the walls in a rich, opulent aubergine, I decided to give the room a modern twist by keeping the decor clean and simple with an all white and black palette. Accent colors are kept to a minimum with touches of pink and red that ‘pop’ and compliment the purple walls. I also wanted to add texture to the room by complimenting the key features of the purse – feathers and reflective surfaces, which are represented by decor elements such as the mirrored side table and goose feather pendant.

Thank you for entering the decor8/Amy Butler mood board contest, Allison! I’ll post as many entries as I can fit in today, and then that’s it, the contest will wrap up and tomorrow we’ll all get to vote for our new winners. Yeah!

Mood Board Contest: Bold Sitting Room by Kelly Johnson

If you love bold design, this sitting room is for you. Black, white, and green make a strong statement, and reader Kelly Johnson has no problem stepping up to design a chic space that both is vibrant and fresh.

Please click on images for a larger view.

Name: Kelly Johnson
Occupation: housewife
State/Country: Texas, USA
Theme: Black, white and kelly green sitting room
Inspiration: I was inspired by the vintage fabric in the center of the board. The combination of the floral black and white print with the bold kelly green stripes struck my fancy. I used mainly black and white furnishings with multiple french doors leading to a shady garden. The green seen through the panes of the french doors and windows would, like the stripes in the fabric, provide a bold, green, geometrical counterpoint to the black and white patterns inside the room. I imagined a room for reading, writing letters and afternoon drinks. Thanks for hosting such a fun contest!

Thank you for entering the decor8/Amy Butler mood board contest, Kelly! I’ll post as many entries as I can fit in today, and then that’s it, the contest will wrap up and tomorrow we’ll all get to vote for our new winners. Yeah!
