Mood Board Contest: Ayurveda Inspired by Vineeta Nair

Here’s an entry from India that caught my eye because it’s so vibrant and rich. Gorgeous!

“Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient system of health care that is originates in India.” – Vineeta. Click on images for a larger view.

Name: Vineeta Nair
Occupation: Advertising Art Director
State/Country: India
Theme: Ayurveda
What inspired your board? I am from India and Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine that is practiced here. And my family has more than its fair share of Ayurvedic doctors :) so I’ve grown up with it all around me. To create a room inspired by it was a challenge that I could not not pass up. Ayurveda conjures up images of Indian tradition – so I’ve used a lot of traditional patterns, designs & motifs. Colours like yellow and red. I especially like the mural art picture that I got and the wall with metal scriptures on it. Ayurveda is also famous for its massages and that’s where that traditional bed figures. And in the Textures and Accents section you will find the mortar and pestle and the metal vessel/urn they hang above the bed which drips medicated oil on the patient. I love interior design and this happens to be the 1st mood board I’ve done in my entire life :) Thanks so much for the opportunity.

“The pillows are made of natural fibre mat. I especially like the wall with metal scriptures on it. The panel below that is the kerala mural art which is found on many temple walls. Its very colourful and intricate.” -VN

“I just loved the traditional latch on the door. The carved bed with natural fibre mat on it. The wooden platter I have at home is brilliantly old world.”-VN

“A metal peacock lamp. The design on the knob is done in the same style as the paneled mural.”-VN

“Various mat textures, natural fibres, metal vessels, mortar pestle & the urn thats hung above the bed that will drip medicated oil. Colours are Indian vibrant.”-VN

Mood Board Contest: Bohemian Morocco by Monika Kost

I’ll try to post some more entries over the weekend, but with my aunt and uncle coming up for his 45th reunion at Dartmouth (yeah!), his sister (my mom) and the rest of us will be with them. For today, I’m wrapping up with this gorgeous entry from Monika Kost. It’s a-m-a-z-i-n-g. Excuse me while I pick my jaw off the ground.

Name: Monika Kost
Occupation: Photographer/New Mom
Website: http://www.monikaelenaphoto.com
Location: California and DC
Theme: Bohemian In Morocco
Inspiration: My inspiration is the idea of a young free-spirited woman traveling through the great country of Morocco, with all the enchantingly bold, bright colors and exotic textiles and brightly colored foods. This room is for a traveler of the world, which I am, and I would love for my room to look like this!

Mood Board Contest: Italian Palazzo by Suzie

An Italian Palazzo by the Sea is not just a dream for one decor8 reader. Suzie currently lives in China but has property along the shores of Italy and is soon to be knee deep in the process of renovating it into her dream home. She plans to document everything on her blog, Palazzo Pizzo, over the next several months. Imagine having your very own palazzo to renovate? One can only dream… For Suzie, it’s (almost) a reality.

Name: Suzie
Occupation: Manager on sabbatical
Blog: http://palazzopizzo.blogspot.com/
Country: Actually living in Beijing, PR China (born in Germany, married to an Italian)
Theme: Renovation of an Italian Palazzo at the Sea.
Inspiration: I look at the colours of the sea, the mountains and flowers in Calabria, corral and seashells. I see the houses around in sienna brown, beige, pink with terra cotta roof tiles. Two fresko remain in the house and could give the colour theme for two rooms. I want to plant purple bouganvilla and a yellow lemon tree. It was time for me to finally do a mood board as we have the pleasure of renovating an over 200 year old palazzo in the South of Italy. Thank you for organizing a mood board competition! The renovation has not started yet, architects were supposed to make proposal, but nothing has happened in the last six months. Of course the main problem is that at the moment we are based on the other side of the world (in China). However, my father-in-law will be on site in the next days and kick-off the thing. He will be there until we arrive in mid-July for a three weeks summer holiday. I wanted to do a design board for a while and started with this one.

Mood Board Contest: Island Inspired Bathroom by Sheri Johnson

More beautiful mood boards to look at today! I’m finding so many are inspired by nature, and for good reasons, one never tires of the beauties to be found in the natural world.

Blog: http://sherijohnson.blogspot.com/
Location: Seattle, Washington, US
Theme: Bathroom — Water, natural elements, tranquil, earth.
Inspiration: This board is inspired by the beauty, tranquility, and simplicity of the Canadian Gulf Islands. We spend our summer months here. The ebb and flow of the salt water, abundant wildlife, and natural beauty all form a safe, healing and and peaceful place. The warm dry air is salty and filled with the scent of dry cedar.
