By Nord + Book #3

Light and bright, gotta love light and bright! I’ve talked about By Nord before but when Cozy Living sent over press access to their images, I couldn’t resist sharing some of my favorite new products with all of you. I love their shower curtains, really pretty, and of course their cushions and the darling bread apron on their cute male model (wink). Everything looks so rustic and natural – and coastal but not your typical coastal style – very graphic, modern, clean and tactile. I don’t decorate with navy blue at home, but against white it all looks fresh and bright enough – not depressing and heavy. I also love seeing navy with blush pink, a terrific combination.

Today is the first of May and is a holiday here in Germany, so I’m taking off to clean up my balcony, repot 24 geraniums, prune and re-pot several indoor Dronning Ingrid geraniums, and decorate my little outdoor city oasis. I love creating a green space for myself, and since the balcony is located off of my work studio, I can use my ipad and laptop out there in the summer and still link in through my wifi which is a bonus – so I can work from home, but outside in the sunshine. Are you thinking about your outdoor spaces now too? A patio? Porch?

I have two wintergartens in the back of my apartment facing the backyard and gorgeous pear tree, and the front balcony faces the street, so I have 3 spaces to spruce up for summer in the next few weeks. I’m looking forward to pulling them together – my friend Leslie Shewring will be here soon and we’ll begin shooting for our upcoming book, so I have only a few weeks before she arrives to get the house together for our shoots. I can’t wait because now we can get moving on our project and start to really SHOW you some peeks as we go and tell you more about our book. What I know right now is that it will release Spring ’14 and we’re doing a North American book tour, along with hitting London and Germany and maybe a few other countries over here! In each of our stops, one of us will be teaching or, if we’re together, we’ll both be teaching, so no matter where you find us prepare to have fun and learn and walk away super inspired and happy. Before all of that can even happen though, we have to shoot and write the book! So that’s our mission between now and mid-summer since that our editor has now finished the flat plan and we fed through all of our ideas to her and the publishers, and the book designer and I had a lovely call so she’s on board and ready to go, too. We have to turn the book in October 1 so it can be printed and ready for all of you in the Spring and we plan to take vacation time this summer to be with our families, so we have to get moving! I can’t wait until I can tell you more about the project, reveal the title, etc. You will (hopefully) swoon and feel happy about it. We want our love for this project to beam through the pages, we are putting so much love and effort into it, so let’s see what it looks like in the end – we hope, a really lovely, creative book!

I was going to go on a big North American tour for Decorate Workshop this month with West Elm, but since Leslie is coming and we have tons of work to do for our book, I sadly had to postpone the book tour and just combine it with the tour for book #3 in the Spring so I can see everyone then – you can bring Decorate Workshop to any signing next year for our book and I’ll happily sign and dedicate your copy. I won’t be coming to America this year for Decorate Workshop (big frown), and I know a lot of you were excited about getting together, I was too, but balance is so important to me! You just can’t tax yourself out when you are writing a book – your energy and love needs to really flow into it and that can’t happen when you are burnt out, stressed or rushing the project. Good ideas take time and great ideas take more time so this summer, it is all about our book. But let me tell ya, when I’m back on American soil next Spring with book #3 touring with Leslie, we will see all of you and hit as many cities as possible thanks to Chronicle Books and West Elm and hopefully, we can grab some of you as helpers, guest speakers, co-teachers, etc. so stay tuned for that! We want to include as many bloggers as we can so the events are really inspiring.

Gubi Gorgeousness

While I’m on the subject of imm, I thought I’d highlight another brand I came across only not at the fair — they had some of their products there but it was only after reading Gudy’s lovely blog the other day that I discovered the gorgeous Gubi.

Gubi

Based in Copenhagen’s docklands, Gubi is a Danish design studio which occupies an expansive loft space that was once a tobacco factory. Founded in 1967, Gubi has become quite an impressive company with everything from lighting to seating and beyond.

Gubi

Regarding their inspiration they tell us their collections are about, “Chasing forgotten icons… Each piece is exquisite in its own right with a story to tell, capturing a fleeting moment in history which remains relevant to this day. Our uncanny ability to recognise diamonds in the rough along with original ideas and inspirations have also resulted in a unique collection of exciting new designs worth coveting.” You can really see this in each of their inspiring creations.

Gubi

I am particularly fond of their impressive collection of lighting and tables. I’m so attracted to copper in particular  – it’s been on my radar since I was at Merci (shop tour here by Jillian) in Paris this time last year and spotted copper combined with mint, orange, peach and black on one of their racks where they keep their beautiful clothing for women. Remember this post? That floor kicked off the whole obsession with this color palette for me.

Gubi

Are you having a nice day? Still gray here but I have good music on and a candle from Muji that smells like a burning fire with a cup of lavender earl grey tea on my desk so I’m making it work. :)

Debi Treloar’s London Home

I have two posts to dedicate today to one of the best interiors photographers in the world, Debi Treloar. Debi has photographed both of my books, Decorate and Decorate Workshop (which releases in the UK in mere days), and working with her on both projects was always a joy. From the first shot which was in Sweden back in April 2010, until our last shoot, which was in my home in April 2012, we had a nice two years working together on two books and I’m so proud that she was part of both projects.

Debi Treloar Home

Debi is a breeze to work with and always so professional but in a laid back way, so even though she knows what she’s doing, she is still quite chill in the process which makes it nice for those working around her as time with Debi doesn’t feel stressful or over-bearing. It’s nice to work with someone at the top of their field who has such patience and charm. In this post, you can see some pics of Debi’s beautiful home which radiates her personality perfectly. She rents her home out as a location space (more pics here) via Light Locations for shoots but primarily, this is where she lives with her lovely family. I think she decorates with soul and so much joy and I just love her style – it is so inspiring to see how she uses color and pattern, too. No fear! Visiting Debi is always such a treat because her home is also always changing – she adds or takes away bits and makes it more charming each time. It’s always nice to see what she’s up to and she adores turquoise and pink and really embraces her inner girly, bohemian rock star and I think that’s way cool.

In my next post, I’ll share something else special and very dear to Debi, her new rental property that she leases out to stylish guests, blog readers and anyone else looking for a sweet little studio escape to stay in on their visit to London. I can’t wait to show you what she spent the summer working on – it’s lovely. Back in a moment!

While I’m working on the post, please check out her beautiful blog – Double Exposure.

I’ll Be On Martha Stewart Radio, 9/26 from 5-6 EST!

Hello everyone! I have some very exciting news to share with you! This Wednesday, September 26th, I will be a guest on Martha Stewart Living Radio on Sirius Satellite (@martharadio) for the show Home Design with Kevin Sharkey from 5-6 pm EST and the best part is that it’s LIVE!

I'll be on Martha Stewart Radio!

Kevin is the Senior Vice President and Executive Editorial Director, Decorating, and Executive Creative Director, Merchandising for Martha Stewart Living Omninedia, Inc. Again, this interview will air LIVE on Channel 110, so I will be able to take questions from listeners – that means YOU – so please tune in. :)

My butterflies are very active (this is huge!) but knowing you will listen in makes me feel worlds better because this is a pretty big deal – anything Martha-related has been a long time dream of mine as you can imagine – I’m also slightly terrified and intimidated by it all!

The show is not recorded but I’ll see if I can have someone record it for me although I cannot promise that will happen – so if you want to listen in, you have to jump onto Sirius radio channel 110 on September 26th from 5-6 PM EST for the Home Design with Kevin Sharkey.

NOTE: If you do not have Sirius access, just CLICK HERE and subscribe for a free 30 day trial so you can listen to me talk about blogging, my decorating ideas, breaking into book writing and more!
