The Enormous Tiny Art Show – Now Online!

I’ve talked about The Enormous Tiny Art Show that takes place at the Nahcotta Gallery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire a few times each year (opening reception this Friday, September 5th from 5-8 pm) but now there’s something new and fantastic to tell you about! Nahcotta was clever enough to build a website where those of us who cannot attend the fabulous show in person can still access the work and easily purchase it online. How exciting!

With artists like Rachel Austin, Susie Ghahremani, Marisa Haedike, Mati McDonough, Cathy Nichols, Amy Ruppel, Tara Hogan, Stephanie DosReis, Betsy Thompson, Jennifer Davis, and a ton of other great talents you won’t want to miss out on your chance to own affordable original paintings.

The best part — they ship worldwide! Now those outside of the U.S. can purchase work from some of their favorite artists. I just picked up a painting from Mati that they’ll be sending off to me here in Germany. How exciting!

Samantha Brown Visits New Hampshire

Quick bite for you today… If you want to know a little about the state where I currently live, Samantha Brown visits New Hampshire tonight on the Travel Channel. I heard Nahcotta may be part of the show as Sam stopped there during her travels. I’ve long been a fan of her show, so it will be exciting to see NH in the spotlight. Did you know she was raised here? I’m not from NH, you can say I’m just passing through and plan to relocate, but it’s very pretty and restful and if you love nature there is plenty of it as I’m guessing 80% of the state is green. So lush. And the coastal town of Portsmouth, which will be in tonight’s show, is simply lovely. It’s like a mini version of Portland, Maine. So typical New England. Very quaint.

collage art of Michelle Caplan from the winter Tiny Art Show.

I’ve blogged about Nahcotta before, a lovely (and popular!) art gallery and design + gift store in Portsmouth. They’re hosting another Tiny Art Show in September if you are interested in attending, and their winter show will be in February 2009 — for that show submissions are now being reviewed so please contact Deb for more information: gallery {at} nahcotta {dot} com if you are an artist looking to be part of a great show. Their opening night receptions are consistently packed and my artists friends who took part in the show were pleased with how well work sold, so go for it if you are interested!

So! If you are curious to catch of glimpse of what NH life is like, tune in to the Travel Channel tonight. In this area, the show airs at 10:30 PM EST but please check your local listings for the exact time.

Thanks Deb for this wonderful photo!

Tonight: LA – Designers Networking Event

The fabulous Vanessa just informed me that the next Designer Networking and Social Event in Los Angeles will be held at Craig Olsen?s showroom* tonight at 7pm. The showroom is located at 130 N. La Brea (near Beverly Blvd). Please make it on time (7pm) so that there is enough time for introductions. And bring a friend – or two! You may invite other designers, product designers and showroom reps and owners. It’s a great opportunity to network so don’t forget to bring your portfolios and/or press information to share with everyone. These events always attract a terrific crowd of some of LA’s hottest up-and-coming and established designers so be there if you’d like to do a little meet and greet!

* Parking is available behind Olsen’s showroom. There is also parking available after 7pm on La Brea. You may contact Vanessa directly to RSVP or ask any questions. turquoise.la {at} gmail.com

Happy Friday!

I’m taking off for vacation next week but I’ll be back on Tuesday, May 27 after the Memorial Day holiday. I’ll leave you with some links today and I wish you a wonderful week ahead!

I’m in the process of gathering ideas and
inspiration over at my 2nd blog called Haus Maus.
Events & Things

  • Marisa’s informative podcast: Art & Money. All about earning the green stuff, licensing your work as an artist, and how to price what you do so that you can feel good about yourself and earn respect from your customers.
  • bient?t demain is a blog I recently discovered that I think you’ll fall in love with.
  • On a fashion-related tip, our beloved Amelie, who is the lovely Audrey Tatou, is the new face for Chanel. Oh how extremely exciting because she is perfect. I read this on Vie Chaotique. Which got me to do some research and I discovered that Audrey will star as Coco Chanel in Coco avant Chanel, currently filming. By the way, has anyone seen Ensemble, c’est tout? I’m trying to find a copy to purchase…

Frida at Husmusen in Sweden blogged about this
new paper from Sandbergs Tyg & Tapet that is just so lovely…

  • Haus Maus: A blog I just pulled together to focus more on my new apartment in Germany where I plan to live 5 months each year starting in August. Haus Maus is a very informal personal blog where I talk about my decorating and diy ideas for my new space. I also have lots of links on the blog for mostly Germany and Europe.

And for those of you waiting for the big contest news, Amy Butler sent me most of the images of the lovely items that she plans to give to the winners of our upcoming inspiration board contest so I’ll post full details on May 27th. The prizes are lovely. The decor8/Amy Butler Contest will kick off on 5/27 and you’ll have 3 weeks to submit your inspiration board to me. This year I’m allowing both digital boards and handmade ones so more have a chance to participate.

See you on Monday, May 27th. Have a wonderful week!
