West Elm has this neat thing going on this coming weekend on Saturday, July 20, 2013  in lots of their stores nationwide. It’s an event called Get Creative With Color and their stores will have local tastemakers giving instruction on something really fun and practical that you can do in your own home. For instance, you can go to the Edina, Minnesota West Elm located at 3879 Gallagher Drive and see my friend and decor8 assistant, Jessica Senti, who  has been my right hand girl supporting me and my business for the past several months, teach you how to get creative in your home with washi tape from 10-11am. To reserve a free seat in her workshop, you have to RSVP here.

I hope that you will join Jessy if you live near Edina and let me know how it goes – I bet you guys will have a great time! And if you live no where near Edina, call your local West Elm and see if they have any Get Creative classes on July 20th locally – have fun!

Kinfolk Flower Potluck in London

May 29, 2013

If you’ve met Holly or know her words, she is a fearless cheerleader of using whatever means you have to create a memorable, inspiring life for yourself. Thirty seconds of courage allowed me to sign up to one of her workshops last year and now here I am, lucky (excited!) and so very happy to be sharing with you in a new monthly column called Simple Times. But I should first introduce myself, my name is Rincy and I was born in India, brought up in Michigan and am currently living in Dublin, Ireland. I work as a training pediatrician and I have a blog called a little bird where I share small pleasures that make me happy. The world of blogging can be overwhelming at the best of times, but I’ve found there is a truth in simplicity, in the little things of every day and sometimes a whole lot of little can be pretty magical. Don’t you agree?

Kinfolk Flower Potluck in London

In April, I was lucky enough to attend a Kinfolk Flower Potluck with a few others in London. It was the most sweetly inspiring way to welcome a new season- surrounded by florals, open conversation and a shared meal around a table.

Truth is, I don’t have matching napkins and decorative flatware. I worry about things going just right. I usually end up forgetting something important at the store. But I do have what I need: food, a table, friends to gather and sometimes even a tealight or two. And more often than not, the best memories are the ones where we forget about perfection and embrace those imperfectly endearing moments of togetherness.

I’ve grown to become quite fond of them. Maybe this is something that you can think about if you are holding back from inviting over friends because you want everything to be ‘just right’. Simply gather together those you love, grab some fresh bread and yummy things to put on it, a bottle of wine and let the magic begin.

I’ll be back again next month with another thought about Simple Times. See you in June! – Rincy.

Bloggers fasten your seat belts! I’m SO EXCITED to offer you a chance to get involved in an all-new e-course called BLOG BOSS that I’ll teach in March along with my blogging friends Irene from Bloesem and Stefanie from OhhhMhhhh. We can’t wait to work with students on becoming their very own blog boss because we each have made a business out of our passions and want to share everything – tips and insider’s ideas – openly and freely for four weeks of podcasts, videos, webcasts and written materials along with a private student-only forum where you can connect with us and other bloggers around the world. This class will be your big turning point, I’m sure!

More details can be found here, but wow, doesn’t this look great? Even for me because I know I’ll learn new things from all of you and our co-teachers.

We nearly sold out after I announced this class on Facebook recently but I had to make sure I told you asap because I know so many of you who are blogging and in need of ideas and encouragement and whoa, the classes I teach online are always jam-packed with everything you need to fuel your blog and even your life in general. I’ve been teaching online since March 2009 long before e-learning became the trend, and to date I’ve taught over 5,000 students and have invited several lovely bloggers to teach alongside of me. This is the FIRST time though that I thought to create a course all about managing your blog and your life in general. Bloggers ALWAYS ask me how I do it all and if I ever sleep but I actually have a life outside of work and I sleep plenty! I realized that what you really want to know is how I organize my time so I can accomplish so many things at once. I will answer that and much, MUCH more in this class.

See You Tuesday!

January 12, 2013

I’m so glad it’s Friday! I’ve had a hard time getting my internet groove back this week but after writing my lecture for Monday’s keynote, I definitely can’t wait to go to Cologne to present and meet everyone – I’m ready! Bring it! We will have a great round-up of companies and international bloggers in attendance. I certainly hope that if you’re attending imm, that you’ll stop by and join us for #wearesocial (more details here). It is free to enter our social media love den, so don’t worry, we won’t be charging you to hang out with us. It would be lovely to welcome you!

See You Tuesday!

How has your week been? Lots of my friends had difficulties getting back into the swing of things, are you in that group too?  And how are your new year’s resolutions going? I’ve been so involved in other things that I totally forgot to write a list! My primary goal at the moment is to get through Monday and then I can really focus on the rest of the year because I’m a tad bit nervous (okay a lot!) especially since I’m speaking before such a diverse audience. Perhaps I should spend Monday morning at a good cocktail bar. That would make for a more entertaining discourse, I’m certain. ;)

On Monday, you can follow the lecture and panel online over at Twitter by following #wearesocial – and if you have questions for the panel on Monday, I’ll check Twitter as we go and if I see yours and if it’s relevant, I’ll ask our panel and credit you, of course! Our event is from 2-4 pm GMT +1 – not sure how many of my American friends will be up and tweeting then but I’d love to here from those in other parts of the world who are! Until then, be well!

And… If you are looking for decorating inspiration this weekend, be sure to refer to the beautiful Est magazine. This photos above is from issue no. 4 and it’s a stunner. Love Est!

Meet Me & Friends at We Are Social / imm Cologne

January 9, 2013

We are social! Yes we are! Tweet me, like me, rah, rah, rah! Okay, social media cheerleading aside, I want to invite you to imm cologne, where more than 1,250 exhibitors from more than 50 countries come face to face with over 140k visitors from all over the world to present 100k+ pieces of furniture and other decorating items — and a big bonus for visitors is that about one third of these exhibitors are totally new. But that’s not all…

Meet Me & Friends at We Are Social / imm Cologne

The most exciting part for me is that I’ll be there to speak on Monday, January 14th from 2-4 on, “Blogging Your Way To Success – 8 tips on how others can find success through blogging and social media” and lead a panel composed of 6 social media and blogging experts for, We Are Social, where we will explore the benefits of social media along with plenty of ideas for all who want to use social media platforms and their blogs in ways that can yield rich results.

Dr. Frank Huber from First Media organized this event for imm and asked me to select 3 bloggers that I thought would be a great fit to the panel that he had already begun to pull together when he approached me last year. Dr. Huber selected Costas Voyatzis from YatzerFerdinando Napoli from Archiportale and Micle Mihai-Cristian from Freshome because those are sites that he reads and admires and whom he regards as social media experts and success stories.

When it was my turn to choose my three panel experts, I wanted to go with a diverse group with different backgrounds so I selected Will Taylor from Bright Bazaar, Frederik Frede from Freunde von Freunden and Stefanie from the OhhMhh blog. Each of our panelists will give a 10 minute presentation so you will get to learn more about them and what they do along with their inspirational story and background. After that, we will break for some mingling and then everyone will be invited to take their seats as we’ll then begin the panel — I’ll ask questions so that everyone in attendance can learn from these inspirational people. My goal as the moderator will be to keep it REAL and RELATABLE. I want everyone in attendance, no matter how big or small your blog is, to walk away with plenty of ideas and creative fuel and most importantly, to feel inspired by all of us and our stories. Because really, our stories are your stories. We are a community. We are social!

If you cannot attend, please follow us on January 14th on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest by following us at #wearesocial

Location: imm Cologne
Congress-Centrum Ost 4. OG, Congress-Saal Sektion 3, Koelnmesse
2:00-4:00

Following the event, I’ll be at the Koelnmesse Passage Hall 3/ Hall 11 signing books at 4:45 (both English and German copies will be available for sale).

For more information, please check out the imm website – this event is completely free of charge so please come, bring a friend, and enjoy a few hours of learning, mingling and fun because we plan to make this an event that is not only worth your time but that can be enjoyed by all.

See you soon!

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

December 13, 2012

Lots of you have been asking what exactly was inside of the goody bags that we stuffed for our students at #bywstudio and so I thought to do a round-up showing all of the loot from our wonderful sponsors. Please click on the links below to see the websites behind each company as they are all such interesting and fantastic spots to find beautiful things for the holidays and any time of the year, really. Ready to see what our students received?

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Chronicle Books in San Francisco gave us journals to write in – so pretty, thank you Chronicle!

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

As mentioned previously in this post, Alphabet Bags gave us all amazing totes and pouches.

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Rice gave everyone handmade animal brooches that we used to decorate the bags from Alphabet Bags. The ribbon on the bags was from our other sponsor, House Doctor via their German agent, Tinna Pedersen.

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Then, Charlotte from Rice sent us a box filled with animal pencils, but that’s not all…

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Rice also donated journals with glittery covers – bling bling

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

And Rice gave our students handmade bracelets and necklaces (necklaces not shown).

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

I reached into my own pocket and ordered 17 copies of Decorate Workshop from Amazon and signed each copy for my students, placing it in their bags. It made me happy to see how much they loved it!

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Wednesday Paper Works sponsored notepads because every blogger needs a to do list!

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Rosa Cosa (I love this online shop!) donated packs of straws since so many bloggers love using them in food photography and blue with pink neon bags (seen here).

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Kusmi tea gave everyone tins of Love tea… And we were definitely feeling the love this weekend!

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

These adorable German tickets (for fun!) came from our sponsor, Feine Billetterie. These are cute for laying on a table during a party or pinning to mood boards.

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Ferm Living sponsored us too – they gave everyone wooden clips.

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Ferm Living also provided napkins so we used their Mr. and Mrs. napkins (shown here) when we ate. So cute!

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Bertine gave everyone a porcelain star, “You Are My Star”, which is exactly how we felt about each student in our class. They were all total ROCK STARS. xo

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Publisher Pitasche Moustache gave everyone a copy of Nine Stories About Love written by Giovanna Zoboli with illustrations by blogger Ana Ventura. I wanted to have a book that had its roots in blogging and I’ve known Ana for many years as a fellow blogger. I think it’s encouraging for bloggers to see what potential there is to extend beyond our blogs to take part in exciting projects.

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Mein Cupcake gave everyone Christmas-themed masking tape. Who doesn’t love decorative tape? My favorite was the white tape with the black and neon pink stars. I saved a roll for my ever-growing collection of tapes!

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

Lisa Nieschlag from Lizza West gave us pretty postcards for the goody bags, thank you Lisa! You are the best!

Blogging Your Way Studio: Goody Bag Loot Roundup

To decorate the studio rooms and the student bags, House Doctor was so generous in giving us paper snowflakes, napkins and ribbons. We loved them! It was so fun to use them to decorate the windows in the studio and the tables and bags. I think the paper snowflakes brought the real deal though because it snowed this weekend and so the windows looked particularly divine with paper snowflakes inside and icy snow falling outdoors. Magical, especially with the candles flickering in the windows. It was such a cozy blogger retreat!

I am so pleased that our sponsors came through for us to make this weekend memorable and gorgeous for both Steffi and I and most importantly, our students. We really wanted to make our goody bags special – mission accomplished! If you missed the video from our class, click here to view it, it’s so sweet because you can see in the beginning how everyone is so thrilled opening their bags to see all of the things that I’ve shown you in this post. You can clearly feel the love and positivity – the magic just radiated from our studio in Hannover all weekend — I think hearts and rainbows were above and all around my home! It was incredible.

I love teaching and want to keep hosting workshops and encouraging and connecting people for years to come, and I have to thank my sponsors for making it easier for me to be generous through their gorgeous donations in the form of pretty products that bloggers love to use. So thank you all, dear sponsors, for your BIG giving hearts.
